RIP Our Beech Tree
Thursday lunchtime I heard a big noise outside the house but didn't think much of it until the lad from across the road knocked the door to
say..
"Your tree has fallen over and blocked the road" !!!!!!!!!!
Sure enough about a third of the beech had split away and fallen all the way across the road, missing my Audi by inches. I get on the phone to TWBC
& then KCC Highway Dept who sent a work crew. This was a photo after they had sorted out the part of the tree on the road
They then looked at the remaining parts of the tree and decided it was unsafe and took the rest down. This is all very sad as the tree was over 40
years old and beautiful. I now have a large pile of logs (which is shrinking fast as people with log burns take it away).

Poor tree.
Giving the logs away?! They're worth a fortune round here! More than coal! In fact, the local plod are asking tree owners to watch out for wood
thieves.

Make sure you do your duty and plant several replavements.....

We will certainly replant with something suitable. I'm just relieved that no one was hurt, either in a car or walking on the pavement.

Been there done that!
Ours went over in a storm in February. Garage now rebuilt but about to start what I anticpate will be the painful process of arguing with the
insurance company about contents values.

The pictures tend not to to convey just how big the tree was..............over 50 feet tall and more than 6 feet in diameter at the base of the
trunk.
Like you, just thankful that nobody got hurt. If the tree had fallen at a slightly different angle it would have landed on our bedroom (just out of
shot to the left).
Still can't believe that we didn't hear a thing when it went over!

A living tree is astonishingly heavy... we had a very big willow tree taken down a few years ago (about 2 foot diameter trunk, 40 foot high). The
tree man took everything away apart from the stump, which I dug out. That stump was only 4 foot long, but it took 4 big blokes to heave it out of the
hole...
