Tax Credits

I'm literally going insane trying to complete this. Why can't P60's, forms, etc... be standarised so the same info is easy to extract from each??

Why can't they tell me what figures are needed - Figure A from there, Figure C from there etc...

"Oh, paternity leave, well we take 100 offf here, but only if blah blah.....take that off there. Pension.....Oh if you pay into a pension....

It's an absolute nightmare.......

It just shouldn't be this complicated and I cannot understand why it is?

Simple...it's from the HMRC, the undisputed leaders in the following skills....

Overcomplification
Duplication
Inefficiency
Inaccuracy
Ineptitude
Incompetancy
Miscommunication
Tardiness

...and many more admirable traits.

If they were a private sector company I'm convinced they would go out of business within a month.

Here's an example of their uselessness. Basically, one department owes me £9k, and i owe another dept £7k. They wouldnt pay me mine in case i didnt pay them theirs. So 3 weeks ago i ran and asked how long til i get the balance of £2k, they said 4 weeks (which is useless anyway), and yesterday, i rang up to check on progress. They said 4 weeks. What a bunch of useless clowns! And all the while, they threaten to auction my belongings over the £7k debt.

It's so complicated non them them seem to understand it either - or a least they all work to their own interpretations of what the rules are so every one of them you speak to says the last person you spoke to was wrong and you owe us £xxxxxxxxx amounts in overpaid tax credits/ you should have been receiving £xxxxxxxx amount for £xxxxxxxxx months but unfortunately you can't have it now (but strangely if you are deemed to owe them they can take it back after any amount of time........ :mad

AND (you REALLY shouldn't have got me started on this!! ) it's such a stupid system working out what you're due from the tax year before last or however they do it as if you are out of work and need the money you can't have any as you earned too much because you had a job BUT if you get a job they throw money at you because you didn't earn anything the year before...... when you could really have used the money............

I'm off for a quiet sit down now

Tax credits are such a stupid system.

Rather than tax people and then give them some back, why not just tax them less in the first place and save all the admin costs?
