Lighter fluid is macho, all I could get a couple of week ago was some BBQ Gel
Safer init.
Don't bloody work either init.
Luckily I have many flammable things in the garage/shed (no not petrol, even I'm not that daft)

All went well.
The "butchers" home made burgers, the pork in mustard sauce, and the chinese chops
all got scoffed without drawing breath.
But just as I was going for a second helping of apple crumble tart topped with toffee sauce and ice cream,
flash crash bang, and down came the rain.
We are very close friends with our next door neighbours. We have to be as it's only a small umbrella.
Cheers,
Paul G

I remember a BBQ a bit more severe than that - we were in Austria in 1999 (we'd decided to combine a holiday abroad with seeing the total
eclipse of the sun). Two nights before the eclipse, we were having a BBQ on a campsite, at the end of a roasting hot day. First we saw a horseshoe of
clouds around the end of the valley; then lighning flashing from side to side continuously; we just got the food off the BBQ when the wind got up;
then huge hailstones started. By the time it was over, everything in our tent was saturated; the tent next to us was torn and collapsed; the tree in
the next field was down; the roof of the house across the lake had gone; caravans and motorhomes were all dented and the electricity was off for eight
hours. The upside was that the collapsed tent next to us was full of large hailstones and we'd been trying to buy ice for our beer cool box all
afternoon!

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

OXY/ACETYLENE !
Wouldn't that then mean instead of a BBQ you have a mess of molten metal?

If you want a safe, quick and almost foolproof way of getting a charcoal BBQ going; use a hot air gun (i.e. the type used for paint stripping).
I say "almost" foolproof - if you keep it pointed in one position for too long it turns your BBQ into a blast furnace and melts the bottom
out of it.

I prefer a lighter, or matches...
Lights the bbq, and allows it to remain in a condition suitable for cooking food on...
