Advertising signs outside my house
Ok heres a question.
A company who is doing some driveways about a mile up the road has suddenly put up a big sign outside my house. Its nailed to a telegraph pole. Both
my house and the neighbours already have block paved drives, and the company is advertising driveways but DID NOT do ours. Can they do this? It looks
like they put the signs up outside houses that already have block paving as if they did it when they didnt.
I have logged a complaint with local council (but that wont acheive anything) and with Consumer direct.
Interestingly, consumer direct said it was false advertising, as when you see the sign, one would assume the houses it was outside had been done by
that company.
What shall I do?
1) wait til dark and rip it down.
2) wait til dark and add a note to the sign
3) do nothing
4) burn it
any other advise on this sort of thing.
Not being a moaning type its just a rather large sign and I dont want my drive way used as "look, another drive way by lay it and
scarper"
Thanks
Andy

Rip it down and bin as without doubt they will not have had permission from the owner of said pole to put it there.

have they actually said on the sign they did yours? if BMW advetise on a street where you reguarly park your vauxhall, are they claiming they made
your car?
its fly posting i guess, which is illegal, but if they don't specifically say they did yours, i can't see how its claiming they did.
don't think there's anything illegal about removing the sign though either

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

The council should really take it down for you though, phone the council and ask if they company has got permission to advertise on that pole and if
not ask them to take it down.

I understand your point, but why put there signs on posts outside houses that already have block paving. If they want the home owners attention,
surley they should put them outside houses without block paving.

What about contacting the company that did your block paving...let them go and 'discuss' the matter
with the lot up the road

Put another sign underneath saying crap driveways.
Not saying theirs are, but, hey!
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I'd take it down. Telegraph poles shouldn't have any thing stuck to them at all.

Finally a subject I have some knowledge on!
i work for a company dealing in Estate Agency boards (for sale, to let etc) and public signage is something we have to know about.
Firstly, the legal doc you need is the 'Town and country Planning Act' which you can download copies of online, or get from local lbraries
I believe.
As far as I can see they've breached two legal requirements.
1. You are not allowed to erect any signage on 'Street Furniture' e.g. lamp posts, road signs, benches and such. NO-ONE can get this
permission, end of. Fixed penalty notice is the usual punishment, plus you they'll have to remove it.
2. The only signage allowed outside residential property, are For Sale and To Let signs, of a specific size, and it must be for the instructed agent
of the property, or the vendor themselves. So, if the sign is 'advertising' your property, in whatever form, again its illegal. Again a
fine will ensue to the owner of the sign.
My recommendation would be to take pictures and report it to the council. they will take it seriously as they can fine the company with a FPN, and we
all know how councils like money eh?
U2U me if you want further info.

Have you all gone mad!!
What is the point in wasting time and money (your tax money) on getting the council to come and remove it.
Its all pointless red tape. Just remove it yourself, burn it, end of.

Take it down tonight, deny all knowledge. Perhaps have a quiet word with the neighbours and take theirs down too so it's not just yours
