Anyone know about betting???

How would I go about placing an unusual bet, something along the lines of "My 4 month old daughter will become a chess grand master by the age of 20"

I'm guessing it not as simple as walking into the nearest Coral and asking.

Actually, i think it is that simple, you tell them the bet and they give you the odds, but as usual i could be wrong.

ps: have you fitted that T5 engine yet Liam?

Ladbrokes were/are known for taking unusual bets.

From the Obit. of Cyril Stein:
quote:
Legend had it that he was once been consulted by a Ladbrokes manager
who had been asked to make a book on the name of the next Archbishop of Canterbury,
but did not know where to start.
“You want a start, I’ll give you a start,” Stein replied. “The Chief Rabbi’s 1,000 to one.”

I think they usually have a department that works out the odds they are willing to give (if they accept the bet at all) then its written down and scanned in on an EPOS system ....so it's written in stone and you both have a copy.

Let us know what it is after you place it.......

I imagine you'd get a thousand or so to one, and a few funny looks.

Tip: Ask the person who looks like they know what they're doing. Last time I was in a bookies it took me 15 minutes to get £20 worth of pound coins...

Bloke who drinks in my old local summed betting up. Background is his old man owned a few betting shops round Huddersfield and left them to him when he passed on. When said bloke was asked for a sure-fire tip he replied,

"Keep out of my shop."

Good advice when it comes to betting.

Crash, Boom!
I went on holiday to Gibraltar once and went out with a load of people from Stan James Bookmakers. I was actually staying at the apartment of one of the lads that sets the odds and they're lightening quick and would give odds on anything. They live and breathe this stuff so I don't think it would be that hard. Just getting past the counter clerk would be the difficult bit I think.
