I found it to be an expensive option.
How about a dongle? I use 3G when I am in the UK.

No experience with Satellite broadband (although i know latency is an issue), but like the previous post says, 3g is the best option it you can
receive it at all.
What i have seen before in the past at work is to use a 3g router (something like
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edimax-3G-6200N-nLite-Broadband-Router/dp/B002GNHOCQ).
This then gets mounted in your loft/up a pole in a water proof enclosure/where ever you get the best reception. Cable or Wifi back to your
laptop/PC

We cannot get fixed-line broadband (too far from exchange). We had an Orange dongle which gives a good 1M DL and around 300K UL, but we now have a
wireless provider (company called Cotswold Wireless) we get around 3-4M DL and 1.2M UL Works fine.
Problem with satellite BB is that you need to buy the equipment, then the rental for the DL (around 30 quid/month last time we looked) and you still
need a fixed line to get the UL, so it works out stupidly expensive.

A friend of mine had satellite BB a few years back; it seemed to be pretty fast for downloads but latency was extremely high so basically unusable for
e.g. online gaming.

It's quick, but the latency is terrible (~900ms) so you can't play games with it. Surfing and downloading is ok tho.
I've got a setup for sale if you're interested?
