what is this woodworking tool called?
i cant post a pic, as i dont have one!
the tool is basicly a slab of wood, with a drop at the front, to hang over the bench
and raised wood at the back to hold your woodwork piece in place, so you can cut it with out it moving about
whole thing is about 12" long by 6" wide,
Grandson has to name it and alts uses, but cant remember its name
vague, me, no its all the others !!
any help appreciated

Sounds like some sort of mitre block!!
I've over 28 years in dealing with magnesium wheels. Refurbishment and can powder coat most metal parts. Visit my web site if you wish..

Bench hook not as stated in this link, bench STOP. And its being used incorrectly. You must have your thumb on the back of the workpiece or you risk
it twisting when cutting and therefore possible distortion of the saw blade. There's educational for you eh?

As you state; bench hook not stop. However it is not being used incorrectly.
He is holding the workpiece against the stop of the hook with the heel of his hand, whilst guiding the blade to start the cut, with his thumb. This is
good working practice.
Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

we used them at school (the bench hooks, not Erics) but not sure if we were told what they were called, or more likely I forgot.
