A SKY TV question
Right then chaps, time for another daft question.
Our new house has the provision for a wall mounted LCD TV.
The cables disappear into the chimeny breast and into a cupboard round the back with socket outlets etc. (cupboard not accessible from the lounge -
doors are in the hall way)
In this cupboard the current owners have there DVD player surround sound amp ect.
Now we will be putting SKY in and it'll be nice if I can put the box in this cupboard out of the way to - nice and neat and less for the kids to
mess with lol.
My question is can I use one of those multiroom magic eye things to fix under the TV so that I can control the SKY box?
Cheers

Probably.
Ask the current owners how they control the DVD.
I'm addicted to brake fluid, but I can stop anytime.

yes I do this from an upstairs bedroom in my house as I run a coaxial cable from the back of the sky box (much cheaper than multiroom) .
Its fine for sending the remote control stuff, the video doesn't work well however (fuzzy and drops out) so thats why that is cabled.

yes, you can do that. few things to bear in mind though...
1) sky won't install the tvlink/magic eye system anymore, indepandant installers will, so if you need them to do it, don't buy through sky
themselves
2) tvlink will carry pictures and remote signals through the existing coax cable, but if you intend on HD tv, then you need to have an hdmi cable
running between the tv and the cupboard. can you run this through easily? the coax cable won't give you hd picture.
3) tvlink will only control the sky box. the remote signal is picked up by the magic eye sensor, and delivered to the sky box through the coax cable,
and into the rf output (aeriel) connection on the back of the sky box. its not a repeater that can relay any ir remote signal. only the sky box remote
signal

Thanks guys.
Looking at the wiring diagrams they show coming out of the RF2 port - would I still need to do that or can I run it from the original RF port?
Which is the better one to go for? magic eye or tvlink?
And does anyone do a discreet looking unit that'll fit nicely on an LCD?
Cheers

magic eye and tvlink are the same thing. the proper name is tvlink, people call it magic eye
RF2 out is the only one that will run tvlink.
what do you mean by can you run it from the original RF port? do you mean like the aeriel port on the wall? as long as that that goes to the RF2 out
on the sky box then yes.

Sorry - didn't word it too well.
I meant the 'RF 1' output from the back of the box?
I suppose if it can only run from RF 2 then thats the one I connect to the back of the TV.
Thanks
EDIT - just realised the RF2 is the only 'powered' output - I now understand how it works!
