Easiest was to get free tv
I currently have sky with a sky+ box. Is it really as simple as getting a freesat viewing card and cancelling the subscription? Do sky not want any of
their equiptment back when you cancel?
Ive conculuded i can well do without discovery channels to save £25 a month! But swimbo doesnt want to loose her drive full of saved programs.
Cheers!

However you will lose all the saved programmes unfortunately !

Had a free upgrade recently to hd and no,alloriginal equipment left behind.Cant see they will treat you any different as sky+ is a defunct box now
anyway. You can either watch the free channels on sky or buy a once only payment card.
no discovery, think I would hang myself, but no what you mean,I dont have films or sport

SKY will want as many boxses out there as possible that can receive there broadcasts. so when the go to companies asking for advertising campaigns
they can state 3.4 milion sky customers that you can advertise to.
I assume thats why they allow freesat to tune in ( looking at a Freesat HD PVR for the Agriv8 household and ditch the Virgin media box )
Think of it like a mobile you get the phone free under contract but after the 18 months its yours to do as you wish

they legally have to show all FREE TO AIR channels (BBC1, BBC2, ITV etc..) but to get the FREE TO VIEW (E4, Watch etc..) channels you need to call sky
and get a card to enable them - it was a one off payment of £20 not sure what it costs now

You will lose any non-FTA (free to air) programs on your hard drive since they are encrypted and tied to the Sky card.

Yes you can record them onto video or onto a dvd recorder - it's one of the menu options on the planner

Buy a freesat box, will plug in to the existing dish with no need to change position, and youl get HD (bbc, itv and ch4) for free.

Its pretty good to be fair, and for free its not to be sniffed at. My TV has freesat built in, but I dont think the set top boxes are expensive. You
can get them with HDDs for recording and pausing live tv etc. I also think the quality of the SD channels is better than that of sky. You could also
look ast freeview HD boxes, but I dont think many HD channels have been launched yet (or if the HD systems are even active till next year?)
The only frustrating thing with freesat is no Dave, but I would asume your TV (if built in last 5 years) has standard freeview so you should get that
anyway.
If you dont have a new enough TV then swap everthing you have for a new Tv with it all built in, and then you dont need any lil extra boxes and
remotes!

The BBC actually pay £10 million a year to BSB-Sky to show the free to air BBC channels, in other countries it is the other way around Sky have to
pay the terrestrial broadcasters to show their channels.
At any one time 60% of BSB-Sky viewers are watching Free to Air channels.
