Pillar drill problem

Many years ago I broke the bank and bought a horribly expensive pillar drill - cracking bit of kit , mainly due to having a variable speed , adjusted by simply sliding a lever back or forward on the side (no lifting the lid and messing about guessing which combination of pullies to use....)

Problem is - its packed up

Under the top cover is a basic CVT - two belts and spring loaded split pullies , and two very worn belts

I've tried goole to see if I can buy some on-line , but no success - the belts are marked 17x5x570 LI , but I dont have a bearing supply type place anywhere near - can anyone help ? ?

Its cuz I is blond , innit

Try BSL Brammer. Countrywide network and can do postage. If you have any bother, I can try my localish place, or try the other bearings and transmission places.

The problem is the belts are supposed to be 17mm wide , and are now 12mm.........so when they move to the outside the sliding/split/sprung pullies , they dont touch the sides

I've done a quick google on BSL Brammer , and theres not one within thirty miles of me - I seem to live in a bit of an industrial dead zone , there is just nothing around here at all !

They do post stuff so you need to phone them. My offer still stands if you want me to order on my work account and get it sent to you.

There's a similar company to BSL called "Ericks" that may be around your area aswell.
If not are they anything like what they'd sell in Halfords if you took them in and matched the length.

Is there a good supplier in Yorkshire ? Simply Bearings have the profile of belts and this one looks like yours. Is it ribbed on the inside face?

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Don't some scooters have CVT drive like that? Maybe one of the dealers will have the sort of belt you're after

Might be worth a email to Tony at lathes.co.uk, I know he supplies the CVT belts for Raglan lathes. He might be able to advise or supply.
