Tories vow 80mph limit
The Conservatives have pledged to review every speed camera location in the country and increase motorway limits to 80mph if they win the next general
election.
Shadow transport secretary Damien Green said the Conservatives would implement a package of measures designed to promote safer driving which would
include more realistic limits on motorways.
Although backing the use of speed cameras as effective road safety tools, Green said too many were not sited at accident black spots and were being
used simply to generate revenue.
He said the Safety Camera Partnerships that allow police forces to keep money from speed-camera fines would therefore also be scrapped if the party
was returned to government, and said every speed camera and limit would be reviewed.
The review would see some limits on motorways increased to 80mph while limits in some built-up areas could drop to 20mph.
The proposed measures have met with a mixed reaction from motoring and safety groups. Anti-speed-camera campaigners backed a review of every camera
location, but the RAC said plans to increase motorway limits put drivers' safety at risk.
Is there no limits that these people will go to to get the vote! Whats next ......a get out of jail free card....that already happens with the bushes
