Selling Car and insurance

I'm sellling a car and was wondering what my liability is with regard to people test driving it.
The tax runs out at the end of the month and the insurance at the end of jan.

Assuming I don't sell before the tax or insurance runs out, can I legally allow someone to test drive it without potentially landing myself in hot water with the BiB

Same would apply selling a SORNed vehicle I assume, can you legally allow someone to test drive a SORNed vehicle.

I think alot of people make the mistake of " I have fully comp so I can drive any car third party", true, but the car you want to drive MUST have its own insurance. Other wise if its spotted by the BiB then the driver will be spoken to about driving a vehicle without insurance.

Best check with your insurance to make sure of my facts!!

generally the car has to be insured for another person to drive it on their insurance you as the owner woul also be held liable should the individual get a pull by the feds therefore it could result with you also getting points

Also, bear in mind that if someone has comp insurance and is "permitted to drive any car" under their policy yourcar is only covered for thrid party liability.

I would let them drive it if they put a pre agreed price down in cash. That way, if they break it, they've paid for it.

Alternatively, take them out yourself

Following a discussion on this very subject in the pub I rang my insurance company to clarify. I was told that I WOULD be
insured even if the car in question was not. She also said "some" insurers however do require it.

So I guess it depends who you are with. It also was over a year ago and I have since taken a trade policy so as to have FC cover.

all down to the small print on Insured to drive any vehicle. As mentioned as well third party liability. Many of the track day test pilots will have never experienced rear wheel drive so the risk is high
