OT: Power shower

locostbuilders being the fountain of all knowledge I thought id ask here

I have just changed the mixer valve on my power shower along with a new bathroom and i have problems

i turned the shower on to test it (after tiling up the wall) and found that it works fine with cold but is really struggling with the hot. I have not changed the pump or any of the pipework from the pump so i just assumed it would be fin but it seems that it cant get enough hot water through and the flow of hot is not enough to make the pump kick in on its own i have to turn the mixer half way before it will generate enough through put to make it kick in

can these things get air locks or something (Im not sure it is this as the hot pipe to the shower is hot post pump and in the loft before going down the wall

I have popped out the filters on the mixer and they are all clear and it is all dry in the cavity so no leeks

I thought it could be the stop value from the tank preventing the water flow so i changed that still the same problem
im a bit lost!!!!

Has it a thermostatic safety thing that is set too low? (stops peeps getting scalded)

Limit collar.

Look for a movable ring behind the handle. If you water temp is set too low the default temp limit in the valve will not let you get a hot shower going.

If your temp is set below 60c you may have to just remove the aforementioned collar.

^^^ Wot he said, sounds like shower stats too low for any hot water flow, either that or youve not removed the shipping plug out of hot water inlet. Have you tried opening hot water inlet union to check flow.
Cheers,
Bob

yes i do have flow at the value and if i open the filter on the valve while the power is on i get good power flowing hot water

when i then put the filter back in the pump resorts to pulsing

I have just removed the shim and adjusted the temp this make it better but at full hot adjustment it still pulses the pump

If you look at the instructions it will give details of how to reset the temp by moving the inner temp control ring. if it does not fix problem check the hot pipework to the pump. Idealy it needs to be fed from an essex flange in the cylinder. It is common practice to feed from the hot vent pipe to the cold water tank. This will give poor performance and symptoms as described. Just because it worked before is no guarantee that it is ok now with new mixer valve.
