Well paid machinist job

I work in recruitment and we've currently got a job that might be of interest to the machinists among you

The job itself is based in Afghanistan and the money correlates! with uplift the salary is £53100 p/a

This would be to work for a huge international american company, who's main operation is oil and gas

2. Qualifications, Experience and Skills

o Qualified to NVQ Level 3/ City and Guilds Advanced Craft in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
o Use of centre lather
o Use of Milling machines
o Fabrication work and machining to high tolerances preferably prototype work

3. Core Responsibilities and Duties

o Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments
o May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain
industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties,
layout and machining procedures.
o Capable of operating centre lathes, pillar drills, grinding machines etc.

You don't mention whether this is a rotational position or whether you must relocate.

In my opinion that's a pretty poolry paid job considering that a: Its in the oil industry & b: it's in Afghanistan.

For comparrison a rig mechanic in the North Sea pays the same if not slightly better with a 2 weeks on / 4 weeks off schedule.

A mechaincs position in Nigeria pays £100k+ with a 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off schedule.

Looking for an electrical job in the off shore sector towards the end of this year
but in a warmer climate any ideas chaps

This is rotational.

I'm not sure how comparable machinists and mechanics are but im guessing putting things together that are destined to make billions of dollars will command a higher rate.

This isn't a job in oil and gas, this is defence.

A colleague is recently back from the front line and is of the opinion that these camps are very safe. They have at least 10 miles of clear, flat land which is further than any of the arms that the afghans have that could reach you.
