2 Night Break Advice
Live Northumberland
Wifes just had a fairly major operation, mobility is on the mend and we are planning a 2 night break of some sort in February....
We have done most of the popular venues a few times, ie York, Edinburgh, Glasgow,Harrogate, Chester,Liverpool, Cambridge,Oxford bla bla
Like a good bistro pub, market town , decent shops for the boss etc....
3 hours north or south of Morpeth is the max I want to travel. Recommend me a venue, we have an open mind.

My spare room... you're both welcome, but no hanky-panky please as the soundproofing isn't as good as it might have been and I really
don't want to hear a heavy-breathing Ivo!

Doesnt take much to get me heavy breathing Scott - a steep hill or the smell of the barmaids slippers is generally enough...

It isnt your right, but we both love Alnmouth too....
Sunday morning walk on the beach for us, only about 20 minutes up the road.
Ps good for New Year apparently - a friend of a friend has one of the pubs there....

Stratford on Avon is nice with lots of good class pubs ,nice walks along the river and of course the theatre if you enjoy that sort of thing.

We have done Stratford - excellent venue and yes the sort of thing we are looking for....
But I think we have probably done the bigger venues now, apart from the south coast which is a bit far.
Decent market towns with a few shops to look in, tackle shop, coffee shop, handbag shop, shoes, webbing etc

what about the lake district?some nice spots to stay. but generally quite expensive. ambleside,windermere,bowness are all nice. but not many high end
shops/retail outlets.

Our firts trip to the NE last year and we loveve Alnmouth /Alnwick.
But +1 for Stratford if you've not been
(And you pass my hoose to get there)
Have you been to Birmingham (dont laugh) Bullring, nice museums and centre, curry central, and no far from the Heritage motor museum (And you pass my
hoose to get there)

Not very useful as too far, but Bath or Winchester fit the bill pretty well.
Left field what about getting the ferry over to Amsterdam or Bruge?

Perfect solution - The Dunkeld Hilton, (in Dunkeld!! )
really comfortable old hotel, was a hunting lodge at some point for the Duke of Athol- he knew how to live!, tartan carpets, stags onthe wall big
long drive, River runs past the front windows, huge grounds with masses of specimen trees which you can marvel at -Giant Redwoods, some of first
Douglas firs imported etc (Made a big impression on me but maybe thats because I work with wood) Hotel rambles all over so if mobility is not great
state that when you book but there is a lift etc
It is all extremely relaxing, food is excellent and every trip starts off with a free bottle in your room, you can have a dram (also free, in Scotland
as well lol) while you sign in, if you are desperate! There is also a pool/sauna/jacuzzi etc and if you are that way inclined clay pigeons and an off
road driving course
Town itself is small but flat, cafes, cathedral, so you would need to do shopping on the way there or on the way back, plenty of choice, good base for
some picturesque drives up to Braemar or through the Trossachs etc
Fill up the car boot with Baxters soup on the way back
We've been twice this year and intend going back before too long, cheapest deals are by booking well ahead, I'm not on any sort of
commission just enjoy it and think it would do you and your missus a bit of good. Fits in with the sub 3 hour trip too, lots of good deals this time
of year

Some excellent suggestions there, Amsterdam we have done, and now that ship has rolled over I have 2 hopes, Bath good but we have been...
I like the sound of Dunkeld, and we havent been to Scotland for a while. Best scenery in the UK imho, best rivers and they do deep fried pies or Mars
Bars.
Its on a simlar theme to Loch Rannoch, which we liked.

Dunkeld is pretty Ivo!
Nice base for jaunts to Aberfeldy, Kenmore, Pitlochry. Or even over to the Trossachs (Callandar, Aberfoyle).

Have a look on groupon or livingsocial. They're always advertising 2 night breaks all over the place, and some decent savings as well. We did St
Ives in Tregena castle last year and it only cost us £90 per couple including a round of golf
