Pimp my ride
I've just discovered this program, it's awesome! For those of you who haven't seen or heard of it, the basic idea is this:
Take someones $400 heap of rust, add $20-30,000 (yes you did read that right!) of body kits, sound systems, DVD players, wheels etc and make it into
an all out pimp mobile!
Although the cars aren't really to my taste, and they don't seem to do anything to the engine, I think it's a really cool program
and the guys on it obviously have huge talent (not to mention awesome tools). I'm currently downloading as many episodes as I can find
Anyone else seen it? What do you think?
Pete
It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care...

Love the idea of a show about improving cars; unfortunately my idea of improving and theirs differs. I have had to deal with too many scum of the
earth types to enjoy watching a show with pimp in the title; let alone one which has $30,000 dollar purely cosmetic "upgrades" for those
insecure enough to try to pick up a date with a flashy car.
I figure in a few years the kids will have 25 inch rims with spray on flourescent tread that weigh 60-75 pounds each. Who cares if they have lost any
hint of performance or ride quality? Don't they look bitchen?
When you're lying in the midst of the Afghan plains and the women come out to cut up the remains; just roll to your rifle and blow out your
brains and go to your god like a soldier.

pimp my ride is pretty funny, but some of the things they do to awful, awful cars make me cringe.
look out for the one with the extremely dodgy cut+shut escort. the only one I've seen where they actually threw the original car away.

It's pretty entertaining but I'd be more interested in it if they did more than just lower the cars and cover them in mad paint and body
kits.
I haven't seen any truely awful cars yet, I think the biggest wheels I've seen them put on at 18in which is pretty sane.
I guess the general viewing public is less interested in the mechanical side of things though. (Or to stick more TVs in it )
And another thing on a slightly different note, why oh why do people buy things like the Escalade and Navigator when the Ranger Rover exists?
For me only a Rolls Royce Phantom or that RR cabrio concept beat it for sheer presence and sense of occasion.
Then there's a nice company called Overfinch...
I can't think of a nicer tow car for my SR3 (I wish)
I think Mr Hammond (TopGear) had it right when he said that the American definition of luxury is just to make something bigger.

seems that perhaps you guys are taking that program too seriously.
It seems to be pitched at jerry springer level, where silly flashy and funny 'upgrades' are done to the cars.
I think its for shock effect only, and its not at all serious.
taking that into account, its a pretty funny program. If you are looking for a serious customisation program, its not it!!!!
btw - did you see the 'pimp my bride' video link posted yesterday?

Range Rovers
If you want to see a lot of new Range Rovers, my old school car park. On the average monday morning there would be 20 Range Rover Vogues in there at
the same time, and then us in a diesel volvo .

I'm in personal conflict about range rovers.
On one hand I think they are beautiful machines, exquisitely built, extremely capable and a lovely place to be.
On the other I can't stand it when they aren't used properly. Ok I admit that a modern RR's top purpose is as a status symbol but
it's still an extremely capable car. It's a real shame that 99% of the things just clog up britains towns and villages taking Rupert and
Jane to bloody private school.
I still want one though.

There's nothing wrong with private school apart from the fact that mummy x100 takes kiddies to it in her V8 Vogue and causes conjestion by being
simply unable to manouver the damn thing
