pneumatic control

not strictly car related but looking for a small cheap 12v Power source to run a simple pnuematic project. Don't want an re-fillable air bottle as his will be istall for a long time.

Basically it will be to control the 4wheel drive on a Landrover Military Forward control.

Engine is Landrover 200tdi - no airconditioning.


was thinking about soemthing like this


but guess it would need a pressure switch and an accumulator

I expect you would burn that tyre pump pretty quickly...

Guess it depends how big your rams are etc though

if you got a car with tyre inflator kit instead of spare, use that pump.

How about a cheap "proper," small compressor, throw away the motor, belt drive it from your engine and remote mount the receiver? Ideally you'd want some sort of clutch (air-con?) controlled from a pressure switch.

dont use one of those tyre inlators, overheat doing 1 tyre, no lubrication ets etc

what a bout a cheap pressure switch to shut off pump when not in use ??? suggestions ?

Maybe you could use an air con compressor from a range rover etc, just fit a filter to the low pressure side of it and give it an occasional squirt of oil in the inlet although intended for refrigerant they pump air perfectly well.You would just need a pressure switch linked up to the clutch and a safety blow off valve on the receiver, that cylinder will use very little air so a small reservoir would be fine.
I have an air compressor in my workshop that is built from an industrial freezer compressor and has worked for 25 years with no attention .
