How to wire an outside light.
Are there any electricians out there that could advise me how to wire an outside light.
It is easy to get to the consumer unit if it makes it easier.

what sort of light and where do you plan on switching or isolating the fitting. mcb should not be used as isolation point really.
am a spark by trade so if you need any advice feel free to ask.although technically speaking you should not be doing it!

I want to fit a single 60w pir fitting with a switch inside the front door.
Is it easier to wire it into the ground floor lighting circuit?

No, would it be ok to put one in the ceiling to isolate it?
There's a light fitting in the porch if that helps.

ideally you dont want to put it in the ceiling.
if you are determined to do this yourself. i would run a 1.0mm t+e from board to a switch (in fuse board cupboard if you have one) then a 3 core +
earth to the light. then at the switch position (in db cupboard) wire as follows.
use a 3 position switch
connect the blue from the twin with the grey from the 3 core in a connector block in the back box,
brown fom twin to common,
brown from 3 core to sensor mode
black to permanent on.
in fitting connect
grey to neutral,
black to lamp (permanent on when switched)
brown to live. (sensor mode in fitting)

if you want to do it legally I've been previously advised its ok to put a spur in a ring main. add a spur then put a socket on that. power light
from a plug put in the socket. if your old style fuse board or want more protection power via rcd. now what I actually did was get a spark to fit it
properly when I had my boiler upgraded.
