Activated Carbon in cooker hood filters

I'm sure someone on here must know, are the activated carbon or activated charcoal granules which are in cooker hood filters to remove smells on recirculating air the same as activated carbon granules which are used in fish tanks?

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! carbon filters in extract recirc hoods are panel type, not granules. They are designed to remove grease and smells as opposed to being submersible. (if thats what you meant).

Not quite correct, the carbon is there to remove steam and smells, it does not catch the grease, grease is its number one enemy, the paper or aluminium filter is there to do that, carbon "panel" filters or cloth's are next to useless, the only ones that work well contain activated chips, if your carbon filter does not rattle then it wont work very well.

If your venting outside you don't need them, they fit normally onto the motor/fan unit itself, removing steam and smells before the air is put back into the room. The grease filter is the 1st filter the air passes through, normally paper or on better quality hoods aluminium gauze which can be washed.

Yeah, these are loose granules in a plastic housing, they try to sell you the whole thing for about a tenner a pop (there are 2 of them) but they can be dismantled & the granules changed (proper locost solution!) I just wondered whether the fish tank ones were any different as there seems to be quite a difference in price???

ditto that cooker hoods do use the granular type. It doesnt come with the extractor as standard, you need to buy the part seperate. No idea on the fish granules though.

My cooker hood has the flat panel fibre filter in the main cover and activated granuals around the extractor fan housing
When I last packed it, it was very dusty, I would expect your tank water to black if you used the same stuff

The granules are also in water filter cartridges for caravan systems and Brita jug filters.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Ermm.. Reroute your Stoves' extractor fan OUTDOORS ??.
The Filter type fan contraptions are just Laughable bodges.
Suck the fumes off the pots/pans and onto your face.. What could be finer??
Illegal in my part of the world if attempted over a Gas stove..

It's over an induction hob & certainly hasn't presented any smell issues so far, presumably that's what the carbon is for? It routes out near the ceiling, so nownere near the user
