Unocking Iphone 5
Hi Folks,
Mrs Locoboy broke her Iphone 3G so got an Orange Upgrade to the Iphone 5, Not overly fused with having the latest and greatest kit she decided that it
would be a nice surprise to give it to her daughter who currently has an Iphone 4 on Vodaphone and is still in contract.
Mrs. Locoboy can then have daughters old Iphone 4, everyone happy 
Orange will not unlock the new Iphone 5 until you are 4 months into the contract, so either Mrs locoboy uses it for 4 months then it gets officially
unlocked and the swap can take place, or we try to get it unlocked by a 3rd party now and do the swap.
Can anyone suggest somewhere to get it unlocked? I have tried the local generic phone accessories shop who currently cant unlock the 5's.
I have found this company site but the doubter in me cant help thinking its not legit and might be a scam!

There is currently no way (thats publicly available) to unlock the iPhone 5. There isn't even a public jailbreak yet so who knows when/if there
will be an unlock.
As far as I'm aware there isn't even a working piggy back sim unlock available. It'll probably be easier to either wait the 4 months
or take it to a place like CEX, trade it in and then use the trade in credit plus a little extra to get an unlocked one.

Thanks for the replies, its just the screen on the 3, is it a DIY fix?

on the iphone 3g/gs the front glass is fairly simple,
you need a glass and digitizer assembly (<£10 ebay) (3g and 3gs are different)
they come with tools
undo a couple of screws, and pull (break) the old glass out, (careful the actual screen is behind)
disconnect a couple of fiddly wires
remove colour panel (screws and clips)
remove remains of glass from plastic frame (heat helps)
[as per haynes] re-assembly is the reverse of the above.
take a look on youtube for videos of it,
consider getting glass digitizer and frame
if the actual screen itself (the colour bit) is broken, that can be replaced in the same way
or take it to your local computer shop and ask them what they would charge.
ps take any unsaved photos etc off it before you do anything else!

Yeah the iPhone 5 can't be unlocked yet and to be honest a manufacturer/carrier unlock is highly preferable for reasons I won't go into
here.
On the iPhone 3G, the front glass is probably all you need and there are very detailed instructions and pictures here:

Pay particular attention not to open the phone too wide before very carefully removing the connectors and be very careful with the connectors
themselves. Use a plastic tool to pop the connectors apart, not metal. Also be sure that the phone is powered off before you start and be careful not
to hit the sleep/wake button while working on it. Other point to be very careful with is when removing the LCD from the digitiser assembly. The LCD is
very thin and extremely fragile so don't bend it in the slightest degree. Think of it as made from the shell of an egg, the slightest bend will
crack it. As someone else said, get a digitiser and frame/home button as a single assembly rather than faffing around with replacing the glass on its
own.
Above all, take your time!
