Breeze Block & Wall Studs + Polyester Resin

I have an internal Breeze block wall that I need to fix something to very Securely to not weight bearing but the SECURITY is imporatant bit .

Traditionally I would have gone for some expanding Rawl type bolts but sometimes these can crack the breeze block.

A quick trawl seems to indicate that Studs and Polyester Resin anchor system is the way forward see http://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-polyester-resin-175ml/53359. Any tips does and don’ts as I really need to get this fight first time as I have never used this type of fixing before .

Secondly I am reasonably sure I am going into Solid rather than Hollow Block but if I do hit a hollow block does the resin work ie ( how to stop it falling Down the hollow bit ) my thought was Drill & fill with some expanding gap fill and then re-drilling and fire in the resin.

Hoping the ‘collective can assist’

Many Thanks Agriv8

I use resin all the time at work and that screwfix stuff is cheap !
pitty it doesn't tell you how strong it is though (critical for my work)

the likes of Hilti make sleves to use with resin in hollow blocks like these (the also make fancy pre-cut ones with end caps)

RAWL also make similar ones I think, but I don't know if there are cheaper versions avalible.....

Make sure the holes have all the dust blown out of them and that the resin is mixed correctly and fully mixed. you can get an applicator tube that mixes the resin correctly as it is applied. If you hit a hollow there are mesh sleeves designed for this purpose.

If your not sure that its solid or hollow, just use the sieves that they do. These are inserted into the hole and if any part of it is in a hollow then the resin oozes out of the sieve and fixes into the hollow, similar to an undercut anchor.

Remember though, when fixing with resin it will only be as strong as the block. Also make sure you clean the hole of properly, wire brush first the blown out with air, this makes sure that the resin will bond only to the block and not to any dust!

I can not find a stockists of the sleves as screwfix done do them. I only need to do 2 Studs ( thus only needing the 175mm cartridge I will try my indipendant builders Merchan Sat Morning unless anyone knows of an online supplier.

Thanks

I have used Rawlnuts for years to get good fixings in solid and hollow breeze-block without any problems. These are like rubber long bungs with nuts in.
I have tested them by swinging on them, after fixing brackets that stuck out from the wall by 3ft. I am over 16 stone.

No probs if you did, thats what we were there for

As for the OP finding a stockist, just go to www.hilti.co.uk and find your closest centre, they sell to trade, just tell them your a general builder and they set up cash account. I use my old account loads.
