OT - new favourite tool

Picked up a set of these over the weekend as I had to reseal the bath and shower. They are officially my new favourite tool.

I've never ever been able to get a good finish on silicone joints and these things just work

That's looks great, I need to redo my bath for the third time as it's looks poo and is going mouldy, I'll see if there are some on Ebay

You will always get someone who will tell you they are a waste of money. These are the people that can do a neat seal straight off.
I can't and bought something similar a while ago. Well worth the money. Although mine are the smaller, square shaped ones with a different rad on each corner. About £5 from ebay.

£5 from Screwfix, which is less than a decent tube of silicone.

I used one of these;

Basically it's like a rubber finger, so whenever the instructions say run your finger along the bead, I used this instead!

I simply run masking tape along the bath and tiles, leaving an appropriate gap for the silicone bead. Then, with a water-wetted fore-finger, I simply run that along the just-applied silicone, smoothing it out for an even bead. Very carefully, immediately remove the masking tape for a no-smears result. Job done.

Probably nothing wrong with your wet finger, but mine never works as well as I'd like. These little things just work.

And that's where the masking tape comes in. Any extra silicone is pushed onto the tape by your finger. Once the masking tape is carefully removed, you are left with a perfectly straight and even silicone bead.

And the masking tape must be removed straight away, before the silicone has had a chance to set.
