I don't what you want this for, but is it for stone guards?
If so, I bought some that are 29mm x 29mm and cut diagonally at the bottom(usual stone guard shape)
mirror finish 1 side
They are currently £7.50 inc each at kitspares

Stone guards !!

NO, its for me to make a kitchen clock, that is why its 300mm x 300 mm as to fit in a perfect place

Plan is to drill a hole in the middle, and mount a clock mechanism in the hole, and stencil a black cross for 12-6 and 9-3

I'd almost guarantee you could get that as an offcut on ebay.

907 might know a supplier who would do an off-cut.

try these guys: http://www.nogginend.com/

although at 2 - 4mm think I'd think your more likely to get a raw bit of metal to polish/brush yourself...

i've been getting on quite well with these things for all my little projects:
http://www.frost.co.uk/satinising-mops-6-inch-and-set.html
the fine one makes an nice job on alloy and the course one is quite good for steel, but its really a satin finish rather than a brushed finish

Quick calc shows that a 12"x12"x4mm lump of stainless will weigh about 3KG! You might want to get a rawl bolt so you can hang the clock safely

Could you perhaps laminate a thin sheet of stainless onto a some alloy plate (using e.g contact adhesive)? Would probably be cheaper as well as lighter.

I'd agree with your maths
304 stainless is about 7900 kg/m³, 0.3048*0.3048*0.004*7900 = 2.936kg

but I think you'd be best laminating a thin sheet (say 0.5mm) onto a block of MDF

if you don't want to see the edges of the wood you could get a slightly bigger sheet of steel and fold the edges over - this way you get brushed steel edges that you wouldn't get with a solid plate

I got a 600x900mm sheet of 0.9mm brushed stainless of ebay for £25 delivered, thats almost enough for 6 clocks
