Yet another plumbing question please chaps!

Evening all.

In my continued mission to do up the house a little we'd like to move the washing machine inside. It presently lives in the garage.

We have a study though (the old kitchen before the 1980's extension) and I'd like to move it into there.

There's currently a water softener in a cupboard and I'd like to locate it next to that.

My questions are....

1... Can I get a tap doubler/outlet to simply screw onto the tap pictured and provide two outlets? The one pictured feeds the dishwasher.

2... Will it be advantageous feeding the washing machine with a softened feed? Or am I just wasting salt?

3... I've seen Y adapters for splitting the waste feed. Is this acceptable or a bit of a botch?

Thanks everyone, really appreciate any replies and sorry I'm so vague....am I learning! Downstairs loo is going well!

You could use a Tee with Isolating Valve (such as that sold here http://www.bes.co.uk/products/097.asp ), and attach two hoses onto either bit of the tee (with the central bit replacing the existing isolating valve).
Re the drainage are you sure there's not room for two drain tubes going down the upright waste pipe? Saves mucking around with waste Y pipes.

No idea re water softeners other than the fact that they add lots of sodium to water...

I see no reason not to put both wastes in together, but make sure both machines are not emptying at the same time. Even then probably be ok, but inconvenient if not. The standpipes are usually pushfit pipe, so a t and bit of pipe at worst.
Water softener will save on soap and scaling up the machine, especially as you must be in a hard water area.
