Garage Consumer Unit Question
I believe the main circuit breaker on my garage consumer unit has given up... Which as great timing as always!
When the main circuit breaker is turned on there still no power to the other circuit breakers. There is a good source of power to the main circuit
breaker as i have removed the input wire and tested the feed. Just nothing comes out the other end.
I really i just want to replace the main circuit breaker rather than the hole consumer unit, which i assume is possible?
Also I would like to use a RCD style breaker to add a little more protection like the one:

Could i just replace my main breaker an RCD breaker or do i still need the main breaker as well as an RCD breaker?
Cheers
Ash

Just install this.
http://www.screwfix.com/p/mk-sentry-16-module-10-way-dual-rcd-consumer-unit-with-8-mcbs/40025
The whole lot. Is cheaper than wickes plus will remove the risk of faulty or out of date mcb's

You can replace the existing main switch with an rcd. Expect to pay around 30 quid at a wholesaler. Its a straight swap, if you get a wylex one.
Make sure that the feed to that board isn't already on an rcd in the main house board, as there is no point in having two in line.
