Help with locost/roadster
Hi all, can anyone help me with my problem, Ive just bought a part built car and it came with few parts, the fella I got it from only had it 3 months
didn't do anything to it and when I purchased it he wasn't much help telling me about it so here I am. As the car came with some spare
wishbones I thought I would start there but came across a problem with the position of the suspension mounting bracket as they don't line up,
the car did come with a build your own sports car for 250 but the Picture in the book of the front chassis looks different to the one I've got
so I don't know how I'm going to get the position right. I've taken some photos to help but don't know how to upload them.

I would suggest making a new jig, cutting bthevbrackets off and welding new ones in the right place.
Doesn't look like they been put in properly, ie no jig!

That's what I was thinking but the front end looks different then in the book.

While you are about it get the steering rack shorterned and beef up the mountings, it will suffer from bad bump steer if you leave as is

Welding on the steering shaft doesn't look too clever! That will need re-doing with a properly sleeved joint.

As above it needs the brackets re jigging.
They over hang to much, they will crack and fail.
Also above the steering link needs work.
Steering rack mounts need support, I believe yours would fail Iva as it is.
The bottom of the tubes F1 F2 with the bracket that wont line up is in the wrong place.
The steering linkage should sit on the inside of it not the out side.

I would strip it down and measure it up and inspect every joint.

Is it Triumph based ? as the front uprights don't look like Cortina either ?

Well i was told it has a triumph spitfire 1500 engine and cortina parts as in build a car for £250.
I have seen a fair few parts that need welding again. I do like a challenge but it's know where to start😳

Thanks for all your replies I will take more photos in the morning, Any more info will help a lot no matter how small as I dont want to be driving
something dangerous. And I live near bournemouth if anyone is local They are more then welcome to come take a look, but no laughing thanks again

They don't look like Cortina as it looks to have top hat adapters and pinch bolts ie as used on a McPherson strut.
Could be sierra ? Would need better photos.
It may explain why you have two lots of wishbones as a sierra based front end has shorter top wishbones.

for the engine,
see if you can find an engine no. on triumph blocks its at the back on the distributer side. (just the first 4 chars/digits will tell enough) probably
fm10... or similar
a couple of pics of the 'vertical links' (front suspension by the wheels) will also help identify things.

the rtc2459r number is a part number for a recon triumph engine.
is there another number under no.4 sparkplug, (stamped into a 'tab' on the block) ?

I'd be getting that panhard rod into double shear there..
I'd also be having a good look at the front end, rack is too long, chassis tubes dont look right, suspension pickups points dont look right,
rack mount looks iffy, it and the steering shaft need some beefing up. I'd be tempted to cut the lot off and go back to the book and start
again.

I will take a look for the other number later today as I'm out with the wifey at the mo
I think I will start by taking everything off and marking the chassis out on a few sheets on ply
and see if anything lines up, when that's done hopefully I can carry on from the bookwork.

Good idea batman, was going to suggest it but didnt think you would go that far.
