All New Builds
I would like one of those all new funky registration numbers on my Locost but I've had different views to how this is achieved. 1 person says it must
be all new parts with receipts and traceability back to the manufacurer while another person says you can use remanufactured, not reconditioned, items
such as engines, gearboxes, diffs etc along with new pasts as long as you keep the certificates and receipts. Is it down to the individual SVA
examiner or is there an official rulebook where this is stated?

I forget where I read this (thought it was the book itself but I can't find the page now) but I seem to remember that if you could that 3 of the 5
major mechanical parts were new or reconditioned to 'as new' the vehicle can be issued with a registration as if it was a new car (ie one of the new
plates)
I can remember 3 of the five items: Engine, gearbox and axle/diff. If anyone can enlighten us with the others it would be appreciated!
As a secondary point, is there any reason why a personalised plate couldn't be transferred to the Locost?

If this is true about 3 of 5 major parts, what proof would be required that it has been reconditioned and not just cleaned well and what is the
definition of a major part apart from the obvious engine and gearbox, would it be a complete braking system, steering rack and column or are they
classified as minor parts because of their size and lack of complexity?
On your personalised plate chris, I believe it's the same restrictions as on a production car, ie you can't put reg plate Y1ABC onto a G reg car and
if the oldest part on your kit is G reg then you can only use reg pre- post- fixes issued up to that year.

There is an 'official' list of the five items of which the three I mentioned were part. You mention the steering rack - well, I think that was on
it aswell.
Will have a look around and see if I can find where I read all this.
Re the reg transfer - I was planning on putting a non age related plate on it. Nothing too expensive but I'd like to get three consecutive plates
and figure it'd be an idea to get them all at once so I know I have the one for the Locost!

What if you get a Q plate,i know you cant change a Q plate once issued with one so personal/private plates are out.
I'm asking this because i've seen a lot of nice home builds on Q plates and i'm sure the owners did'nt ask for it.
I dont think a log book from your donor is always good enough.
On that note has anyone got an old sierra log book i can have

I recieved a guide to SVA with club news letter ages ago. In it it refered to being able to use the donors registration so long as three magor items
from the donor were encorporated ie engine gearbox axle if you maintain build diary and pictures part numbers etc this should be ok but it is not a
given that those dealing with your registration will stick to this as it depends upon where you get it done. I haven't heard of being able to get a
new reg though

A friend of mine who built a Westfield kit managed to get a new plate for his and he had a new MKII Escort engine.
Well... I say new, more like about 30 years old but it's amazing what a good clean up and a lick of paint can do for you! Possibly knocking up the
reciepts on his computer helped aswell!
;-)
Not of course that I could condone or encourage such naughty behavior!

Thought the ringing thing would wake a few people up,i dont think its the right thing to do but they are of a different breed down here in the
tropics.
SVA seems to be full on and some at our local test station.Might tow the car to Beverly.
