Christmas post

Ok,

Someones just sent me an e-mail saying that I'm monoplising the forum by posting too much.

So what do you think?

Do I post too much?

Cheers

Chris

(PS. Next poll - do I care?)

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

How strange- especially when you're not the highest poster. As Bob said, he and Steve Gussetson ( ) are far ahead!

I think I win the competition for highest ratio of posts to knowledge though!

Cheers,

James

(Edited for P.S.)

P.S. I think having submitted the poll you're duty bound to post the e-mail aswell.

Then why the poll eh Mr G? Answer me that! I voted to kick you off the list but it wouldn't accept it! Doh! It's about this time last year that you caused the trouble on TOL wasn't it. Just because you're a rasperry ripple and have nothing better to do please fu*k off and leave the rest of us law abiding citizens in peace!!!
p.s.
Are you going to elvington tommorrow? I can't make it but tony's trailering his car up and the AGM lads from Barnsley are going.
love you!

Actually, it was about February when Chris became a refugee.

As far as posting is concerned :

Its easy if you dont like em!

Next to all my posts is a piccky of a fabulously hunky guy in a cool car.

Same goes for Chris

You just skip past those bits if you dont like em.

Id like to think I have posted 1000+ posts of useful tidbits of information, with the occasional cock up - ie, tri rated cable (and I can prove that its 3 times more, even thou Alan is still likely right!).

And if I ask the odd question I would like to get a few helpful replies too.

No one has ever emailed me with negative comments at any time - they would be ignored anyway.

This is a decent group with decent people that I would be more than happy to share a pint with. (provided it was with straws - and no blowing back either!)

TOL on the other hand before it exploded was full of intolerant people out to snipe on the least thing. (Its improved tho).

I have noticed however, that there is a bit of a TOL attitude developing on here - and emailing Chris with 'nasty' comments is one of them.

Anything to be said should be done on HERE. I have never taken a debate off line - it gets too stupid then.

Some of the newer posters on here seem to be the least tolerant - its a good idea to get yer feet under the table before you start spraying food at yer hosts.

There is also at least one person on here that has two accounts and is using one to post silly stuff, and is replying to their own posts in an effort to spawn more sillyness.

I dont see Chris as being a 'waste of time' poster at all - he's a wit (or summat like it) and has some useful tidbits of info.

He can also be silly with just the one account. Thats impressive!

If I were Chris, I would post a whole lot more from now on!

ATB

Steve

PS

Its cold outside - dont expect to see my posting rate go down until spring!

Got to agree with Steve, I find the vast majority of posts on here either informative, amusing or genuine questions.

And that's pretty much everyone as well as Chris.

There is an odd silly post, (by some) but not enough to worry about...IMO (which is right of course)

Ok steve I admit that Im one of the newbies relatively speaking. I am in the motor trade & I like to think that I know a fair bit. BUT I definately don't know everthing and most of the posts are useful cos my trade is in replacing broken Items only with the correct part & I don't generally have to think that hard about how I can get myself out of a hole as do self builders. The hardest part of my job is how am I going to properly do the welding repair to that car so that the owner has an almost as new repair to their corroded car after its MOT. (without the costs going silly) So your experience whilst totally different to mine is just as valid as are most of the replies that turn up.

By "yours" I generally mean it in the collective sense.

Chris,
being totally honest I thought that this whole post was a little toungue in check and thats the way I treated it when it came to the vote.
If it is genuine I feel very annoyed that so many of us have given time to this idiot.
We are here to learn, help and have a laugh of which you do all three. So tell him if he doesn't like what you have to say, don't read it.
Cheers Col

PS How do I change my vote?

Thanks for the support guys, It won't stop me anyhow!

The E-mail wasn't really "nasty" as such it just made a point, and I didn't know whether it was the general view on here - hence the poll.

I like to help if I can, but I must admit that I do take pity on an "orphan" topic, Just so that people don't think they're being ignored.

Occasionally I have a stab at the answer, which usually brings someone more qualified out into the open!

Anyway thanks to all, except PTM who can get rodded off!!(in joke)

Cheers

Chris

I dont like the sound of that pint of scotch jollygreen - you live way to close to me and it could happen!

I dont want any of the newer posters on here to think I am singling anyone out in my comments - im not. Its just that I have been through the 'picky comments' thing by people on TOL before (and here).

Its easy to be critical of people.

I learnt a great lesson on the first day of my computing degree course in 1993.

This was a 2 nights a week over 4 years course.

To fill in a lesson, the lecturer gave us the 'NASA test'. Its basically a list of items, that you had to order in priority, that you would need to survive on the moon after being marooned. Things like oxygen, air, heat, etc. You have to rank them in priority order.

I was in a group of four. Me the electronics engineer, an estate agent, a secretary, and a young lady that worked in computing at abbey national head offices in MK. (she passed with honors!)

I was way confident, being the techie, I would get the highest score. I did. Then something enligtening happened.

We were asked to combine all our scores together, as a team score.

It was HIGHER than mine. Every single group in the class of 30 got a higher score when combined!

The whole point of the test was to prove how a joint effort - teamwork - got a better result. Others were clearly right on some items more than I was. Even though they didnt seem qualified in technical areas.

Thats one of the reasons I spend time on here. As well as the laff, its a great way to learn and pick up tricks and ideas.

I could be an estate agent in the terms of things (and sorry if you are an estate agent!) - it does not matter.

As far as who has bigger knowledge, better skills, jobs, whatever, its not relevent.

What is, is the desire to help others in the same situation. We are not stuck on the moon, just building cars.

Steve.
