How about this for a web site feature

I'm asking tons of questions about what bits have people used to do X. For example what radiator will fit in the nose cone. What donor have people used for hand brake cables. I don't mind byuying these to avoid a freezing cold scrap yard experience, but need to know details. so, my idea would be to build a database of what people have used. ie

Have a list of parts:
Radiator
Headlights
Hand Brake Cables
etc.
Then, against each, people add in what vehicle / make / model they used as a donor and any notes, like:

Radiator - "I used an 84 Micra and found the fan fitted perfectly"
Brake Pipes - "Got mine from a 93 mini 1100".

Slightly diferent to the Donor Vehicles general chat; more a listing.
What do you think?

When is the kick-off? And where will it fit on this site?

My car has these basic lumps :- 1600 X-flow, Capri Mk2 4sp gearbox & rear axle, Cortina Mk4 front uprights, hubs+brakes, using an MK chassis.

Work-in-Progress: Changed to Zetec + T9. Still trying!!

John

If you fancy making a list of the things you'd like people to specify I'll add a feature to the new site.

Trouble with that idea is where do you start or stop?

You'd have things like Radiator, Radiator hose to fit said radiator, length of hose.

Indicator housing, length of arm, colour of lense cover, type of bulb to fit it.

Wiring harness, plugs on harness, harness length, number of wires, etc.

Fuel filler cap, length of filler pipe, size/shape/volume of tank.

The list could go on forever.

Surely that is all part of the fun of building. Finding which part you can replace with what.
It's also what this site is all about! Asking questions!

If you want all that detail then go buy a W-------d kit!

Sorry if this seems a bit harse, but I doubt anyone could remember what every single component on their car came from, until it was raised in discussion.

Terry

Top idea in my opinion.

Would save endless repeats of the same questions (rads crops up regularly).

It is not the same as building a W******* kit as there will be potentially as many different solutions as there are cars but at least it will give those of us who are not as far on with our builds somewhere to start.

Yep,the site is getting bigger day by day,so searches are taking longer.
Probably best for the idea to be put to the vote,if only to see if enough people are interested.

Just wanted to bump this one back to the top coz I think it is a top idea (no pun intended).

Something else I would like to see is the type of car being built next to the name in the photo section. I have to trawl through the lot to find pics of BECs so it would be nice to see it next the builder's name on the overview screen.... just a thought

Top site even without the mods!

Well I'll be buggered if I can get a Micra rad to fit !! It is too high for mine.
I only have 390 mm even at extream angle.
Me thinks I've got the only lowrider Locost !

Just thought I would change the subject. For a bit, I think the list would be great but complicated to give all background info on each case.
