Alloy wheel claim
Hi all just after some advise,
I bought a new set of alloy wheels for my tin top in the summer Kahn RSC 18" and they lok awsome. The problem is I was driving home from work
the other night and I hit a pothole in the road (I never saw it until it was too late) and now I have a small dint in the front wheel of the side that
took the pot hole and I'm pretty sure that it's now buckled the wheel.
so what I'm asking is has anyone ever claimed against the council for a wheel and if so how did you go about it?
cheers Mike

Yes, exactly the same scenario.
Country road, oncoming vehicle, nowhere else to go but over the pothole. Result one buckled wheel.
Letter to the council detailing the event and photographs of said pothole. Initially they said they would not pay out but after a couple of
conversations they covered the cost of a new wheel.
This was Banff and Buchan council so quite near to you.

A friend of mine had this, except the pot hole was so big it swallowed the whole wheel and nearly ripped it off. After some investigation he came to
the conclusion that if the council don't know about the hole then they cannot be held responsible. If you complain on 1 day about the hole and
suffer loss or damage the next then they can be held liable.
I would not like to guarantee that this is the case, it is just 2nd hand opinion.

Sae happened to me in Ayrshire, Council denied responsability verbally but when I pressed them in writing they offered 90% of the cost of a new wheel
and tyre. Couldn't be arsed agruing so took money.

I was going to say that my 19" OZ was cracked by pothole
But trying to take on the council is going to be a pain in the ass

Suppose this has been made more difficult by that t*** in the news this week who has just been jailed for a fraudulent claim. He claimed he'd
injured himself tripping on a pothole - and then gets written up in the local paper that week for his footie prowess later on the same afternoon as
the alleged 'trip'. Cost the council 30 grand to take him to court - he only got 14 days porridge.

Take some pictures of the pothole with a ruler included in the pic to give depth, breadth and width. Someone I know did just that and successfully
claimed.
Good luck.
Dave.

I had this, phoned the highways department to complain, met a council guy a couple of days later at the site and the pothole had already been filled.
It took a long time but I eventually got a cheque from the councils insurance company.

Has anyone actually found a pot, in a pothole?
I wish I had thought to claim for the damage driving over a pothole did to the rear subframe of a mini I used to own... It might have been partially
due to the rust however...
Cheers
Andy
Dammit! Too many decisions....

Make a claim, as it costs about 30p to write a letter of complaint, and post it, or email (free)
and then see what the response is
i tripped on an a very raised paving slab(while out running) about 10 years ago and fractured my right elbow
i made about £2200 after all the legal costs, yet at the time was just going to leave it
so you have to think first , will i win, secondley is it worth all the shite and grief
in my case yes!!!

well I'm going to get my wheels ballnced tomorrow to see if it is them that is buckled and not something else damaged on my car. I've
taken a few pics so i'll post one .
The thing that gets me is it's not as if we're not already paying enough for the roads.

Well in inverness are you not all still using horses and carts mate. And aren't all audi quattros supposed to be overpriced
overengineered german tanks so they should handle a little pot hole
Now that i've taken pe thiss and on a serious note yes we pay to much already whether it road tax or council tax or fines or parking tickets
etc etc etbloodycetera
So I think you should complain like hell and get at least a new wheel and tyre out of it cause if there's any hidden damage and it lets go at
speed someone may be after you in court.
Don't be offended at me taking the mickey earlier please.(there's enough of this on here already

I hit a rock about the size of a volleyball going through the Dalveen pass, contacted the legal protection people who said that it would be difficult
to prove negligence on behalf of Dunfries and Galloway council, if these things where easy you wouldn't need lawers to do it, so was advised to
leave it, though that was about 20 years ago, we have a much greater compensation culture nowadays and councils are more geared up to deal with this
sort of thing so I wish you all the best in getting some payback, I stopped buying legal protection after that, but started again recently because of
todays culture.

Shoulda bought a v/hall mate.
Anyways if you can build a locost why are'nt you fitting the pads yourself. No point in putting it into spec cars now let me tell you a story
My BIL has an A4 tdi 2.5. Puts it into sec cars for a service. Yours truly pics it up and its got a quarter tank of deisel. I get as far as the beach
boulevard and have mega probs stopping at a zebra crossing and thinks to myself jeez whats going on here. Looks at the dash and very little on the
fuel gauge. Look up and smoke appearing from the brakes/wheels. None of the injectors were tight and the engine bay wash awash with deisel. Phone them
up and they say sorry its after 5 phone audi offroad. BIL phones them and creates hell and they phone me back and say a technician will be with me in
20mins. I said fcuk the technician send me a mechanic with 19mm spanner and I'll do the job myself. In fairness they did take the car back to
the workshop and steam clean the engine bay
and gave me a full tank of fuel. But I always thought that they should also have changed the pads at least if not pads and discs.
Nice car to drive and plenty power but going from a V6 petrol to a turbo deisel jeez you need to use all the gears to keep the turbo spinning.

I had an alloy like that on my Omega. Not buckled mind you but a flat spot on the inside rim. Not noticable until a cruising speed of 85 and
then tou could hear all the panels drumming with the vibration.
Got a new on on ebay for 25 quid

If it's any consolation the same thing happened to me earlier on this week, mine deflated the tire though.
No puns that it's only flat at the bottom required.
