Mobile tellingbone question

I am a rather atavistic chap when the subject of mobile telecoms comes up, but I feel I may be doing myself out of money I don't have to. I currently have a pay-as-you-go SIM in a Nokia 7110 but a mate forwarded this link to me and I was wondering if anyone had the same/a similar deal and could tell me if/where the catch was? It seems to me that you get a brand new phone, 400 minutes talk time a month, 250 texts a month (neither limit will I even come close to breaching), free line rental for a year and a phone at the end of it?
I freely confess to being a babe in the woods where mobiles are concerned, since when my Ericsson was bought for me 5 years ago (only just changed it for the 7110) contract phones were still kind of expensive and pay-as-you-go was the better option for the occasional user such as myself but I feel this may be better still but I thought I'd consult the oracle of all knowledge that is this forum.
Opinions/guidance please.

if its 12 months free line rental, its often also an 18 month contract, so they still get money out of you. However, contracts are always cheaper unless you barely ever use the phone.

It depends on how you use your mobile... however I'm on a great pay as you go deal with orange. If I top up by £10 in a month the next month I get 300 free texts and so many minutes free evening calls to other orange mobiles....

...since I mostly use my mobile for texts I currently have £35 of call credit on my phone (built up over the last couple of months) and over 200 texts to use up.

I don't know if they are still doing this offer but if like me you use your mobile mostly for txts it's well worth a look.

Who the f**K tightened this up!

I've just signed up for my 3rd mobile contract (12 month) with "cashback".
I've always received my cashback with no problems from either of the companys I've used before.
My current contract is on Orange with 200 cross network minutes per month (anytime) and 50 texts.
The deal is £30 per month but once you figure in the cashback the contract works out free (unless I use more than my free minutes, which I never do) plus I get a new phone every 12 months. I even got a bluetooth headset thrown in
The old mobile gos on ebay and usually gets £60-70.

It's madness, dunno if they think I'm gonna use more airtime and offset the "free" contract, but you think they'd learn

The only think I'd be careful of is companies who might not be around for your cashback payments, most of the best deals I found were with companies who've been bought out by carphone warehouse, and I reckon they should be around for the next 12 months

I will add though that I've just sent a mobile back to E2save after a month of trying to get them to connect it, shower-of-shite...
