GT40 Replica
Ok I'm looking for a new long-term project that I can spread the cost over lots of years....I've always loved the GT40 and would like to
build a replica. Was thinking of doing a locot but I've got one of those and if I had two I could never decide which one to use and
couldn't sell the other! So:
- Anyone know somewhere to get/buy chassis plans from? I've seen the crap going around ebay and aint interested in that. I'd also need
to buy the body from one or the other of the replica manufacturers as I can't be bothered to try to make my own bodywork!
So if anyone can shed some light on where to start I'd be very grateful! Cheers in advance....Oli.

I've been looking inot something along these lines recently. No-one seems willing to sell their chassis plans, as most manufacturers use their
own shell and chassis combo. Many just buy a shell and make a chassis to fit.
I'm probably going to end up making a chassis and having a pop at a Lola or canam type shell.

I remember reading that issue actually...Its a shame ppl wont give up their plans though obviously I do understand! I just feel like I'm
willing to shell out several thousands of pounds to purchase the body and probably lots of other parts but just because I want the satisfaction of
building my own chassis I wont be able to! Oli.

I know. I'd like to get a chassis and a good shell, but can't afford it. If I could get a shell from somewhere, I could make a start. But
I can't afford that either. Probably going to just make a one off something or other, bit like GTTMan on here. He's got a BMW V12 and
plans to turbo it. He aims to demolish the McLaren F1!!

That is a really good aim to start a new project with I reckon....Not sure where to start I'd really like to do the gt40 thing as it means a bit
to me to do it. Was the first car I ever really lusted for and probably started a bit of an obsession what with it being 40 inches high etc! Think
I'll do a bit of research speak to some of the companies.....found out Dax used to do one according to google....might be worth speaking to them
see if they'll sell a copy of chassis plans.....Oli.

Are there many places in the country that make the shells anymore?
I want one of these, but the missus is putting up a fight.

Gardner Douglas list the grp (lola T70 replica) for £2k
http://www.gdcars.com/gdt70/gdt70_kit_prices.htm
Autotune list a McLaren M1B or M1C replica bodyshell for £4k
http://www.autotuneuk.com/can-am-m1.html
Not really locost but cheaper and massively easier than making your own.

Cheers for that, didn't realise that GD did the lola shell on its own. Right, now to get saving and persuade the missus that £2k for a plastic
bath tub is the way forward!!
Any ideas for a chassis, or is the gd one quite good? They're a name I know, but am not familar with.
Make that £5.3k for a chassis and shell! That's a whole load of saving up!

Take a look at the front page of http://www.totalkitcar.com/home.php
Jonathan Palmer seemed to like the handling.
Might be worth dropping into WHSmiths on the 3rd But only if photo's can change the missus's mind.

Mmmm Chapparel (if I spelt that right). Definitely wouldn't get away with that one. Already suggested it and it was instanly denied!
Photo's do help, as does a comfy seat. She hates the indy because of the seast and the exhaust blowing flames up the side of the car and burning
her jumpers!! . This way I cna have a "proper" seat, she can have padding, and the flames leap out the back.

Hi
The way the artical reads he mainly sells to racers, so he might sell a body on its own? Doesn't he also make a porsche 917 rep?
He sometimes posts on

Might have to ring GD tomorrow and see what they say. Does anyone know of any pics/build diaries of the gd lola, so I can get a look at the
chassis?
PS Sorry to Oliwb for kinda hijacking your thread, although I hope it still helps.

Mmmm, that does look pretty tasty indeed. Should also be a bit different, which is good. Seems reasonably priced too. Although that was 4 years
ago!
Does anyone know if a V8 would fit, as the only pics I can find have a 4 pot in it.

Hi all
I was just wondering if anyone managed to find some plans for a t70 or gt40. I have had a look at the GD website and spending 20K without the engine
is way out of my league.
I have just finnished the build of a Dax rush V8, which is now on the road but i have in my garage another rover v8 engine that i am in the process of
rebuilding. I intend to put a pair of garret T3-60 turbos which should get me 300bhp+ without too many problems
The question of what to put the engine in keeps leading me back to the Lola T70.
After having built a Dax i think that building as much of the car as possable ,including the chassis would be financially the only way i could afford
it.
What do you think?

GTS are bringing out a GT40 copy soon. Think its due to be officially launched in the summer. Take a look on the GTS OC forum for some more info.
