ISPs
I have just spent the last 2 hours trying to change internet providers and not got anywhere.
Have been with Tiscali 2Mb Unlimited for the last 2 years with no end of problems. We have been put on the heavy users list several times which means
that the internet is virtually unusable between the hours of 6pm - 11pm. Were put on it again recently so we decided to cancel and go with BT. Here is
part of the email I received from Tiscali after we were put on heavy user list:
"If you wish to seamlessly migrate to another service provider using a
MAC Code please call the cancellation line 0845 077 4488, advise the
agent you have received this communication to obtain your MAC Code.
You will be permitted to migrate away regardless of whether you are
in contract or not."
I did exactly this and was told this was not true. Our line has been upgraded (without our knowledge) to a "LLU" line and this means they
can cut us off but can't give us the MAC code to transfer, it will take up to 14 working days to clear the line.
There are 4 students in my flat who all need the net as all university communication is via email. We are pretty fcuked without net for 14 days
Its total bullsh*t, why send me an email which is contains the wrong information?!
I have phoned Tiscali several times but they just give me the same old sh*t and wont let me speak to their line manager. Bt has been helpful but they
cant just clear the line and start again, it has to be done with Tiscali (through BT Wholesale).
Is there anything I can do about this? Tiscali have lied to us in their email, wont give me an answer, wont call me back and have told me its my
responsibility to chase them up about clearing the line
I'm thoroughly pissed off and feel like they just don’t give a sh*t. BT even wished me good luck when I said Id phone Tiscali and cancel!
Has anyone else been through this?
Hope everyone else is having a better day...

i deal with BT (indirectly).
Basically, you're stuffed. Even if you got Tiscali to agree they'd made a mistake, there is nothing they can do. They are at the mercy of
BT wholesale and .... those are the terms they work to. They have a contract, why work to a different set of rules?
The only way you can get anything done quicker is to get a mp / high ranking civil servent to jump up and down in appolectic rage.
aledgedly.
so unless your dad is someone VERY important you'll just have to grin bear it. Perhaps you could time it for when you've got half term?
(or use the connection less - do you really need all those downloads / naked women pictures?)

I've had terrible experiences with Tiscali. Their business broadband web site pages giving me all sort of errors and are appauling to navigate,
call desk operators who many times can only help if its on their script.
I even had one say "sorry can't help you" which for the business level service is appauling. Fair enough it was a difficult problem
but it was basic stuff with smart hosts. Thankfully there was one person I got through to after a few calls who actually knew what a smart host was.

"GET OUT OF BED AND GO TO UNI YOU LAZY ...."

Hi,
Are you aware of the adslguide.org forums? If not then try posting on there as you may find someone who can advise you better.
Here is the website:

Scroll down to the Tiscali forum and post the same message you posted here.
I hope you get it sorted.
Cheers,
Craig.

Hi,
Sorry, meant to mention, there was some discussion on the Zen Internet forum about someone trying to migrate from a Sky LLU connection to Zen.
Apparently there are two types of LLU - SMPF (Shared Metallic Path Facility) and MPF (Metallica Path Facility). If you are on a SMPF line then you can
migrate with a MAC code to Zen (and other ISP's) but if you are on an MPF line then you must do a cease and reprovide. You can read the whole
thread here:
http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=zen&Number=2723700&page=1&view=expanded&sb=5&o=&fpart=
Note that I am with Zen and would recommend them very highly if you can justify the slightly more expensive service. You definitely get what you pay
for in the world of broadband...
[Here is a link to a useful article from Ofcom discussing this problem and what they intend to do about it:
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/migration/migrations.pdf ]
Good luck,
Craig.
