blind nut , come off in an internal box
Hi
I have had to take the front door of my "road car" and on the upper hinge bolted to to the "A" post, the blind nut/captive nut
has dropped off inside the chassis box, which is a sealed all round type of box!
the only way to get to the box would be to take the dashboard out (not an option)
there are only 2 bolts holding the upper hinge, so leaving only one is also not an option
any idea's ???
regards
steve

This happen to me on different part of the car last week, I put some underseal in to stop the nut rattling and used a rivetnut.

Sounds like a good option, there is a Fiat Bravo somewhere in the uk with one of my 16mm sockets rattling around in the rear section of the
chassis........
Oh and i recall dropping a M6 nut n washer in a Dyson washing machine whilst working over the production line, whilst it was in the uk that
is......long gone.

I think the name of the thing I would try is a 'rivnut', probably with a washer to pack out the remaining good fixing to give equal
spacing.
You could make a large hole next to (above, and breaking into) the original hole to take a nut and washer if you were desperate and didnt mind cutting
into the pillar.
I can give you a sketch if neither of these things make sense.

Had a midget that did this, welded a nut to a washer to spread the load and tacked on a length of welding rod.
Was able to feed in the nut/washer through another factory hole and direct to where it was needed.
Once in place a few dabs of glue on the back of the washer and bolted it up, left for ten minutes for the glue to dry and snapped off the welding rod.
bingo !

The hinge nuts are usually on a plate so they move together, if you can still see it get a piece of wire in the bottom one and lift it up the top one
may reappear. Stuff in body sections doesn't rattle round, I've taken sills off and found screws, bolts and rivets that have been in there
for years without making a sound, once found a secret stash of condoms in a sill but they were past their use by date
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
