First car

I picked up my first car today.

My face looks like this:

What it looks like in the light

Its a 1989 1043cc VW Polo saloon. It's in need of a new carb and a wheel bearing but other than that its great for £125!

Nice

Lightweight, chuckable into corners, no silly driver aids like ABS, PAS, traction control.

You'll have great fun in that.

it might only be 1 litre but all those stickers will make it go a lot faster

Great boot lid too

Cheers

The chequers are there because the boot had faded so much it was nearly white when the guy bought it. He sprayed it black and the white is sticky back plastic from homebase.

Thanks for all the appreciation.

I remember that feeling!

At least you picked something simple to maintain and cheap to run.

Remember, treat everyone else on the road as an idiot...

Nice one Adam

I tried one of those out once, the front brakes were a bit suspect. There must be £50 worth of stickers on it
He must have, there can't be two like that.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

If you've got a year to prep it before you get a licence, you've got time to get rid of the stickers, lower it, fit some 13" ATS alloys, loose the bumpers, shave the rubbing strips etc.

Oh and paint the bonnet, roof and boot black.

Euro cool.

The stickers are staying!

Proper retro cool.

It will be going down 60 or 80mm front and probably 60mm rear as soon as I build up the money (christmas ).

I'm on the look out for some cheap 13x5.5 ATSs off an opel manta so if you see any give me a shout!

The bonnet will hopefully be done the same as the boot. I will buy an old bonnet to do that too as the current one is in too good condition!

More pictures coming.

Small world

I dont really know him, but he used to (or still does) go to brookes, and was selling the polo on the motorsport society forum back in september.

Im sure i have seen it on a LeMans forum too when they were discussing what cars they were taking.

Did it go to LeMans this year.

Cool car though!

Well I've found whats causing the idling / running problems!

The petrol vapour separator has a crack in it and was spurting petrol all over the inlet manifold and the vacuum hose was disconnected. I'm going to bodge up the separator tomorrow and see how it runs then!

It's going to be so low you wouldn't be able to see the lights under the car

The exhaust is new so thats staying at least for a while! Might remove the centre silencer though
