if you read the comments on the BBC news site it seems most people are against it.
I dont believe in execution normally, and certainly not the public ones with a bloody thirsty mob!
To start a discussion, where does anyone think it all went wrong for Saddam? In the early days he was a good thing for Iraq, starting compusory free
schooling etc. He certainly lost the plot along the way...

Someone who killed so many people must be senticed to some place where he feels the pain of the people who lost their relatives.
Hanging is to quick.
I think he lost control, the people around there live as us 500 years ago, thinking of surviving, hate and complots.
They are using their religions, their etnic to start violence.
Although where not very doing much better;
Jugoslavia, North Ireland, WO II, cold war it's all about Money and control. And has nothing to do with religion or what ever.

It's actually illegal for him to be tried, never mind hanged.
The ancient laws of Iraq (being one of the oldest nations too - Baghdad is the oldest city in the world) state that ANY former or current leader of
the nation cannot ever bbe tried for any crimes.

Unrepealled ancient laws tend not to be that reliable. If 12 men good and true declare a woman to be a witch, they can legally drown her - never
worked with Margaret Thatcher, did it!
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Only relevant in Western 'flexible' socioties I'm afraid. We're talking about a general populationj with strong beliefs in
Sharia Law, which has remained strict and unmoved for longer than most sets of laws on this planet!
Hanging Saddam will just divide a population even further.

Saddam was the first arab leader to abolish islamic courts and drop sharia law. He only allowed some of it back to curry favour with the more
fundamentals, to thwart a rebellion inspired by the iranian revolution. He did however bring back death for rape, sodomy and murder!

What about the wrongly accused. i think its 2 quick. sit them in solitary for the rest of there days.
Some people are worried about the difference between right and wrong. I'm worried about the difference between wrong and fun.

The rate of recidivism amongst summarily executed criminals is exceedingly low!!

The saddest thing here is (and Im not supporting Saddam at all) the average Iraqi in the street was a darn sight safer than he is now and the country
was relatively stable.
All the invasion has brought is murder and chaos.

Just out of quick interest, anyone here been to Iraq? I was there last year and besides the obvious I thought it was a beautiful looking country,
though on going to Kuwait I can see why they wanted it.

Unfortunately an ancient by-law also exists in Chester that says that a Welshman can be shot after dark....

I questioned it whilst on a se7en tour there this year. Apparently it's only on a Sunday, and you had to be born within the walls of Chester
otherwise it was illegal. I was gutted!

.................so when are George W Bush and Tony Blair going to be hanged for all the deaths they have brought
about?????..............................
its a crazy world
Don't get me wrong I am no saddam supporter, but there are certainly different rules for different people, and the west are getting away with
murder.

I think this is legal in Shrewsbury as well, but you have to use a bow and arrow.

The death penalty should never return here. Courts are just not reliable enough. There is no chance of a death sentance being repealed once it has
been implemented. Our Judical system is prone to the occasional miscarriage of justice. An improsoned man, wrongly convicted, can be released.

There's something about taking out a scotman with a crossbow on the city walls of York on a Sunday.
Given i work for a Scottish firm who's relocated a load of top brass to York - they've all been warned: Give me a hard time mid week, and
next Sunday may just be a bad news day!
