Fiat Stilo disaster
has anyone any expierence of Fiat Stilo engines?
My father bought a new Stilo 1.8 16v three years ago, has had a few problems since but nothing major.
Came home and reported low oil light.
The last time this occured was after a sevice when, you wont believe this, but the oil filter fell off!!!
Fiat dealier eventually admitted "that shouldnt of happened" F@#king dealers
Anyway, had a look under the car , and it seems the crankshaft oil seal has blown out or been totally detroyed as he lost all his oil in about 3
hundred yards.
Havent had a good look yet because i will have to remove the cam belt and pully to see and i can't think where else it can come from in that
area.
The three year warrenty ran out 2 months ago!!!
Car has only done about 30,000 miles,
Has anybody had or heard of any similar problems.

Sounds very much like the sump is presurised -- check ther breathers are clear but the most likely cause is blown piston ring or piston.

Stilo engines are VERY oil hungry. 'Nornal' consumption is quoted by Fiat as 1ltr per 1000 miles
I get about 1200 miles to the litre from my 2.4...
Other than that the engines are actually very good (as are most Fiat engines). The Stilo does suffer from problems with the gearbox input seal.....
