anyone familiar with audi cabriolet?
just been to look at an 1998 audi cabriolet, had a real liking for these cars for years so decided to try and get one.
was talking to a guy the other day who was saying audi's never rot as they are galvanised?
the one i've just looked at, 1.8, 98 S reg, 105k on the clock, 2 owners, full service history, 12 months mot, some tax on it, rear tyres were a
bit low but other than that mechanically it was sound.
the rear arches both sides right on the rear edge were starting to blister up though? now if it'd been any other make of vehicle i
wouldn't have been all that bothered but my uncle managed to talk me out of it straight away because of this.
is it a blatant sign of something being not right? (accident damage?) or is it a case (like most 8+ year old cars) that it's just one of them
things?
the rest of the car was pretty straight, couple of parking dings stone chips etc but underneath was solid, there wasn't any sign of a oil leak
anywhere, the interior was more than acceptable for 105k car.
really questioning if i've done the right thing walking away now! was priced at £3450 which for an S plate audi cab seems pretty good!
your opinions please!

HPI check? See if it's been in an accident? But if both sides were like it then it's unlikely unless it was a major shunt.
Is it metallic? If not a possible cheap bit of sparying would sort it.
Everything rots, in the end, except fibreglass of course
Did he seems desperate to sell or reduce the price when you started 'walking away'? They usually do if the car is a bit suspect. If
it's genuine then he'll be less bothered.

was a female and she didn't give a rats ass when i said i wasn't wanting to pay full price because of the wheel arches.
she seemed pretty genuine, had the car for 5 years, it only had 20k on the clock when she bought it and she swears on her jack russels life it's
never been in a shunt. HPI check comes back clean.
even trade value in glass's is coming out at £3550.
tempted to ring her back and go back to see it again tomorrow but feel a right tosser not being able to make a decision!

I find it a bit strange that a 1998 car has any rust at all, particularly one that is supposed to be a "prestige brand."
My '97 Mondeo has been run ragged and shows no signs of ever rusting, and my daughter's '95 Fiat Brava is the same.
Very odd!

i had an 98 escort, was only 4 years old when i bought it, within the 2 years of me owning it the rear arches had started to show signs of blistering
on that.
it's an 8 year old car so i'm not expecting to find a mint one i'm just a bit worried about being told the other day "they
don't rot they are galavnised" then seeing that one i was just wondering if maybe it's common or if indeed they shouldn't rot.

I reckon thats had both rear quarters replaced at some point. An oudi of that ages should have no rust unless its got a bad scratch on.
My 98 passat has a stone chip on the roof thats through to the metal and its been the same since iv had it. Not rusty. Keep meaning to touch it in
actually.
