OT Wireless Printer

I am looking at making my printer wireless so my missus can print from her laptop. I could buy a wireless printer network but is it possible to connect my printer to my wireless router?

Thanks,
Steve

You will need a print server which can be plugged into your router or have the printer plugged into another pc on the network which would need to be switched on all the time or just while printing.

I assume your printer has a USB connection rather than parallel?

Some routers have USB print servers built in. If not, providing you have a spare ethernet port on the back of your router, you can buy a simple USB print server like thi s one. You could also use a wireless print server but they are much more expensive, and not compatible with all printers.

I presume then it will be as cheap to buy a new ADSL Wireless router that has a built in print server?

Yes mine is a USB printer. The USB mini network is exactly what I was thinking.

Thanks,
Steve

A lot of even quite cheap printers have ethernet ports now. I have an HP PSC2575 photo print/scanner/copier plugged straight into an ethernet port on my wireless router.

You will find one for 90 to 100 quid it is a cracking good printer for the money.

Use a wireless router, connect your printer to the main PC. She can still print wirelessly through the network via your PC (as long as it's switched on).

That's what i do...

If it's a multifunction printer it won't work on a USB printserver, only certain basic USB printers will
