Total trailer length
Hi,
I have looked on the world wide wait and i cant find anything and you lot know everything so what is the longest length you can tow (i.e. length of
car and trailer) if you past your test before 1997?
Thanks
Phil M

I have towed a 20ft trailer with a 20ft van without incident (legal or otherwise )

Look on a camping forum.
It doesn't matter when you "pasted" your test as the new laws cover everyone. There are some touring caravans, particularly
Hobby, the German ones, which fall foul of the law when towed on the road as they are too long and, when coupled with a vehicle heavy enough to tow
them legally, need a HGV licence. If it's a motorhome it's not a trailer, a caravan is still a trailer. It all changed when some idiot ran
onto a trainline while texting his bird with a car on a trailer behind a Disco. You can tow anything with anything till you get caught though

yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

If you passed your test after 97 you are limited to 750Kg, unless you sit a trailer test, well thats what I have been told, maybe rubish.

There is a max combination length for goods vehicles i.e. artics and wagon and drags. I suspect that the van/trailer combination is more likely to be
regulated by the MAM of the combination.
I found this site which IMHO seems to suggest that the maximum combination length of vehicle and trailer is 18 metres.
Go to the third search down on this page.

They're site is quoting 18mtrs as well. That a hell of a length to control if it's of any kind of weight.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.
