Kit, big engine, cabin

Hi All,

I'd like to know the choices for kit cars (or else affordable cars) which have been designed for the Chevy V8, Rover V8 or other big displacement engines and have full weather protection (cabin / screens + top), either replica or originals.

My little research:
-Cobra replicas
-GT40 replicas
-Expensive Le Mans or supercar look alikes: Ultima GTR, Minotaur
-Smaller Ford V6: Saker, Aeon GT, Kamala?
-Affordable non-kits: TVRs, Marcos

What else out there?

I think you can get a V8 in a fisher fury.

Have always liked those!

And a little less spensive

The Sebring MXR's front end looks half way between a classic mini and an AC cobra IMHO lol

Stylus can, there's a bunch of Rover V8 powered ones but also a Toyota V8 powered one in Holland, still in build phase, but it'll be in there.

You are right that both the Fury and the Stylus can be seen in V8 fashion.

I also missed the lo(west)cost option of them all, the Luego Viento.. strange how I seem to recall they had gone out of business, but I'm obviously wrong.

The Factory Five GTM looks awesome although expensive, and they have another suitable one which looks quite beautiful too, the Type 65 Coupe (derived from their Cobra replica chassis):



The Sebrings are nice, I think the concept is quite like the Gardner Douglas G350 (no weather gear), i.e. original roadster with Cobra looks (Sebrings look less like a Cobra anyway). The GD G350:



I think the Attack engine bay is too small to fit a V8 in.. although having seen one fitted to an MX-5 (by a member of this forum btw), I will believe anything. Anyway, I'm looking more at the ones which have been conceived for that, mostly

The Stylus has doors, do you know if that's true for the Fury as well or is it a step-in?

From the Fisher website

"There are two styles of body available. The Standard Fury has doors and a full height windscreen whilst the Fury Spyder has a smooth-sided body shell without doors, a simple wind deflector and wider rear wheel arches. The one piece, forward-hinging bonnet provides excellent access to the engine bay and is available is two basic styles: the Classic bonnet and the Le Mans bonnet with further options for a bulge to accomodate larger engines."

A circuit-nutter friend keeps telling me that a V8 is a crap choice for a Fury, too much weight (and at the front) for such lightweight car. He says I'd be better off with a 4 pot with good bhp (say high revs or turbo).

But better off for what? I'm thinking more the other way around: I agree that the V8 may be a crap choice for a Fury but, is the Fury a crap choice for a V8 (which is my engine choice this time)? I don't thing so, Sir!

Thoughts?

The all alloy rover v8 is very similar in weight to a pinto.
A smallblock american with alloy heads isn't as heavy as many people think.

Depends what you want to do with it, for a pure track machine think BEC for a cruiser it's less clear.

Whatever you choose will accelerate better than 99% of the 'normal' cars on the road

He's absolutely right - of course....

Stylus with a nice high bhp turbo'd jap engine - that's the one to go for

A mate had a nice RV8 powered stylus - it was a lovely smooth torquey drive.

If I was going for a V8 I wouldn't go for a Rover, takes too much ££££ for any decent power. My engine of choice would be an LS1 - 8 .....

Very wise posts guys, thanks.

I think this guy just doesn't understand the concept "cruiser", he's way too biased towards track use, which is why he likes my current car (the Locoblade).

I also think my ideal would be a LS1 generation III, 300 to 350 bhp iirc, easy, simple, reliable, relaxed.. and massive torque without bothering to shift gears.

Screaming during these few years has been really sweet, but I fancy some roaring now.. we'll see if this small bloke gets his small block!
