Locostbuilders Police Poll
So... from this thread: HERE
let's have our collective thoughts on the general consensus of opinion about our Police Force.
I'm hoping we can be as unbiased as possible about this (all those with speeding related endorsements!) but just a realistic
poll about how people think about our protectors

pretty useless poll this one steve, you cant paint them all with one brush. There's always good cops and bad cops, and good laws and bad
laws.
And you missed the option 'good job, which i might do one day'.

i think people would have a bit more time for them if they attended when you called them to burglaries etc,they always seem to be "too
busy" but have enough staff to man bus lane checks ,to harrass people that have plaster pigs in their windows or someone of a "protected
species" that has had a funny look from someone
who cares who wins

In my opinion - the Police Force are not the point... you missed the point Joel.
Due to Government intervention with targets and trying to control the way we behave and perceive behaviour, they have actually isolated the very
people who are there to enforce the law - gaining respect in the process.
By allowing Police 'Members' to flaunt the law and escape prosecution, it is actually fanning the flames of contempt by the very public
they are meant to serve. That's what the poll is about - it's not about specific officers, it's about the general perception.
Joel - you aren't 'a member' are you?

I think Mr Grumpy is a policeman, if my memory serves me right. I don't mind the police its a hard job and I'm just glad someones doing
it.

Hmmm a bit of a moot point there Steve!
I think we are inclined to take our frustrations of the type of current policing, out on the 'boys and girls in blue' that we do (if ever)
see on the streets. 
In reality, they are not the people at the end of the telephone, and they are told which jobs to go to by their 'superior officers'.
I think we should be taking to task, the supposed 'higher-ups' that decide which calls/jobs merit following up.....
so therefore, as your options seem pointedly at the guys and girls actually on the street, I shall sit this poll out, as the option I would like to
see is not there!

pointless poll?
there seems to be a limited number of choices, which I do realise is how a poll works to your favour by limiting responces, but on a forum like this
where I imagine quite a few people know of or occasionally have things to do with the police, it seems a tad pointless, and in spite of your responce
to Joel's post, Steve, I have to agree with him.
No I'm definately not a copper (I wouldn't be allowed to be one) but a couple of members of my family are/were. And no they're not
in traffic, but working the middle of Manchester and doing a job, I doubt I could.
To offer the options in this poll that you have, but then reply to Joel as you did, seems a bit ambiguous to me, to be honest.
I mean no offence at all by what I say, but also haven't been able to vote due to my reasons above...

Having been through the initial interview stages myself and working with them on a day to day basis - it a tough job and I'm glad I'm not
doing it!
It's the legal system that sucks - I see that on a daily basis as well!

I can assure you that police 'members' are not allowed to 'flaunt' the law and the prosecution services which as it says, do
the prosecuting bit and the police are two different entities and there's no favouritism.There are police officers who get speeding tickets
(traffic cops are like a law unto themselves) and who get the sack for various misfallings. We get just as frustrated when theprosecution decide to
let the scrotes and burglars off. It is quite a difficult job facing abuse every day and having to deal with less 'desirables' but then
there are people on here who also have jobs that are difficult in ther own ways. To be honest I'm surprised that as many people as there are
have been sympathetic. I expected more views like Hellfires. Not that you're not entitled to your opinion Steve I might add, each to their own
and yes I know there are short falls in the service, but its just that ours are looked worse on, which is understandable too

Overall, they seem an ok lot, but as has been said, if they attended the more day to day stuff, eg burglaries etc, and spent less time harassing old
grannies or whatever, then people would cheer up about it. Another case was about a crash the missus was in before xmas. It took 3 1/2 weeks for the
officer to come and take a statement from here so we could get the claim sorted out. Most annoyed at the time!

Therefore the actual poll statistics reflect what I (kind of) hoped would be the result. The options were kept to a minimum to force the issue. There
are those who can't make up there mind when offered a limited menu... then the restaurant closes 
Absolutely no offence taken by anyone, isn't that what a poll is for?

There is nothing wrong with the guys doing the police work , it is a thankless task at the best of times but when you have three cars stolen inside
twelve months, as I have, you begin to wonder.
All were reported within an hour of them being nicked but not one police man/woman came to see me.
I was told that jobs were being prioratised?????
We have the same situation at work, our office was broken into twice and all the response from the local cop shop was a crime number so we could
claim from our insurance. GRRRR.
Still, chins up eh.

Just to clarify things, the CPS must be consulted before any charge is laid against anyone, let alone a serving officer (in which case there is a
specialist unit dealing with such matters).
You also have to remember that it was a JURY who aquitted Pc Dunning and tha fellow officers gave evidence for the prosecution - hardly a case then of
the police "letting off" one of their own. If there is any fault in what the jury were told then that is down to the judge - and the CPS
can take steps to "appeal" if things are as bad as the report makes out.
IMO the rubbish spouted as to why he wasn't charged with speeding (fineable only) or Failing to Stop after an Accident (Magistrates' Court
only and a max of 6 months imprisonent with a fine more likely) is pure uninformed bullsh*t. the charge of dangerous driving encompasses driving at
speed, driving whilst intoxicated as well as a whole host of other factors - the guideline sentence is one of imprisonment and a mandatory extended
retest following disqualification - all of which lead to the conclusion that the charge laid was appropriate.
I have to deal with the police most days of my working life and has been said above, there are good 'uns and bad 'uns as there are in all
walks of life

I had my shed broken into and i had a soco come around and dust for prints etc, i do live in a small village with no crime at all untill my shed was
turned over. . . only days before we had pikies around cutting trees, so on this occation thumbs up for the coppers
