Not a good day!!!
Not having a good day. Just went to the local shop to get a couple of bottles of Old Peculier and the sods took my card off me!!!. Still managed to
pay with another account card so not the end off the world ( WOULD HAVE BEEN BECAUSE I HAVE NOT TOUCHED A DROP OF ALCOHOL FOR 5 WEEKS) .
Back home check my account on line and it seems I am in INDIA at the moment withdrawing large sums of money every few hours.
I’ve been cloned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Phoned the bank and cancelled card but now down by over £700 pounds, Bank say they will refund it all + the bank charges when they are happy it was
Fraud..
Asked me if I was in INDIA this afternoon at 3.25 our time.!!!

Hate to say it but that is what I think has happend. I only use My card 3 or 4 times a month and it was not cloned at B&Q so the petrol station is
prime suspect.
Bank with Halifax - they were very helpful...and said they would be in touch again in the morning to go through my account in detail,

Seems to be very common, hope you get it sorted . Don't forget too tell your bank where it may have been cloned . They may inform police or tell
you to do it . I never pay for fuel with my card just in case . Would be a shame if petrol station attendant met with an accident one night?

I had one the other week. I bought some stuff of a kit car supplier and the next day I had some dodgy credit fraud. Now I am very suspicious about
this supplier as I hadnt used my card for 7 months and the day after a I used it I had fraud... Makes you think

In fairness the bank (natwest) sorted it out straight away they refunded the money within 48 hrs and then started investigation.

Quick heads up. This is happening in the Manchester area at the moment too. Police are aware. As for the Halifax, I'm surprised you're
finding them helpful in any way. Are you sure its not another bank cloning them and pretending to be them. The helpfulness gives it away!

NatWest seem to be fairly good at detecting anomolous behaviour. Several times in the past I've had phonecalls when in airport lounges checking
that it's really me using my card in whichever country I was in at the time...

This is what gets me i never get called.
I buy stuff of the internet, go through airports, i've slept in airports, gone abroad at silly times of year, spend nothing on the credit card
then suddenly put a 1k on it .........
i must have the most random purchase habits and they never seem to worry that its out of the ordinary.

Martyn, would that be Brooklands Road or Ottershaw? I had my card cloned in January , but I 'think' mine was done at the Shell
garage in Liphook. All credit to Barclays, they phoned me before I was aware, so damage was minimal.
But it happend to t'other half a few weeks later and as I was on the ball after mine being done, we informed them........ their customer service
not so good with the Barclaycard, so more damage was done before anything was realised, still fighting to be reimbursed on that!
We had used one of those Shell garages around that time...

I would be very interested in which station that was, I am probably using the same one - and I never use cash.
Name and shame or U2U and I will stay clear.
I would be worried sick if it happened to me, I feel for you.

There was a case of a petrol station in Birmingham being raided by the police about a year ago as a silly level of fraud was traced back to that
station.
Muggins went about a week after when it had just re-opened without realising.
Got to feel sorry for the retailer as they end up getting the bad reputation for the crooked employees.
Saw a program where they showed how you can be conned and its really easy with credit cards. Simple rule - NEVER let it leave your sight, esp in
restaurants & now with CHIP and PIN always insert the card yourself. If someone tries to take it off you - watch them closely, you can strap card
readers that get your card number to your body easily. Things like they dropping your card are VERY suspicious.

Foz/Martyn,
My ex had her card done by asian staff at the shell in guildford on the aldershot road, it was closed by the police for a few days the following week
and staff replaced. We also knew other people who had been done by the same petrol station at the same time so seems quite common. They even removed
the chip and pin machines for a couple of months afterwards!

I worked for a certain very large bank in india for a while training up their offshore callcentre staff to work for uk customers. In fairness to them
most of them were excellent, but a year ago i found out one of them had sold thousands of account numbers and cost uk account holders hundreds of
thousands. At least he got caught. The police out there are something else, they beat the snot out of suspects first and ask questions later, if at
all. He can't have had a nice experience.

Zikes! that's the one we use most often!
So.......Ottershaw and Brooklands Road Shell could be OK.......
Mike......I for one never let the card out of my site, nor does t'other half.......so, me thinks, it could be something used on the card
'reader' or a camera strategicly placed....
To explain......talking to Barclays Fraud dept, they said that they have had instances recently, where there was an attachment placed underneath the
chip and pin readers, which logged the details, totally invisible to the customer, and, more worryingly, instances, where 'pen' type
cameras placed in concealed places where the pin number being punched in by the customer, can be recorded.......

Very nice of them. Would they give you an interest free loan of £700 for two weeks?
I don't think so.
How the hell do they justify taking two weeks to return your money once they have agreed to the refund?
Tell them about the bent treacle edges!
