Javelin Trackdays

Has anyone had any experience of trackdays organised by this company?

The reason for asking is that they are holding a number of events at Woodbridge airfield in Suffolk, which is only about 20 miles from my home.

I have absolutely no experience of trackdays, but quite fancy the idea as long as they can cope with absolute beginners like me. I also have no idea about preparing the car...

David,

I have don the track day at woodbridge with javelin a couple of times now.

They are very well organised and a nice bunch (family run). They will look after you very well o your first time. There are good drivers briefings, sighting laps and the open pit means you can go out/in as you please.

There is on going on today. Why don'tyou pop down and take a look?

David, you'll be fine. Javelin are quite popular as far as trackday organisers go and you'll probably find that you're not the only beginner there. Theres nothing to worry about.

As far as preparing the car goes, there's nothing special that needs doing. Just take a few simple tools and plenty of fuel.

Why not go along to one of their events beforehand and see how they organise/operate the trackday if you're still unsure.

Phil

David - airfields ones are great to go for when you're a beginner, absolutely nothing to hit!!

Take fuel, tyre pressure gauge and footpump if you have one (good to play around with pressures - makes a big difference), tools and bits and bobs like spare hose clips and pipe, zipties etc. Then just keep an eye on things like water temp, oil pressure, fuel gauge, and your brakes - cos they can overheat quite quickly. And rest yourself and the car regularly through the day - it's knackering!!

I'll be up for it once my cars finished - most tracks are miles up north so this is relatively local!!

Took Doug's advice - went up and had a look-see (and met him there). Quite a crowd of assorted cars, from track specials to general-purpose saloons.

Had a chat to the organisers (very friendly) and he even did a noise test for me - at the moment I just scrape in at 101dB; the limit's 102dB! I'll need to do something about that...

As for when I'll go... not sure at the moment. I've got a few things needing my money just at the moment.

The viewing area's a bit limited - you can only see a short chicane, a corner and a short straight. The whole course was about 2.5 miles, apparently, with a VERY long straight!

Probably a boring place to take a spectator, so you might as well register any second person as an official passenger.

another positive vote from me.
the guys who run the days, Colin and Bob put on a good day with plenty of marshalls, ambulance, toilets and a buttie van. Good value for money non elitist days as it says on the tin. you also tend to get like minded enthusiats who go with their cars and drive them quick but not recklessly.
i usually book most of my track time with javelin and they are o.k. by me.

i have had mixed experience with other track day organisers especially at oulton park where i have encountered dickheads with 100K cars who are prepared to drive them into you and the armco.

anyway i am booked into croft next sunday with javelin and noticed a couple of MK indys booked in also.
anyone from here???

Met Colin today - he's the one who did the noise test for me.

Also gave me several tips for preparing the car for a track day. Good bloke.
