anybody see grand designs last night?
was no doubt a repeat, but I don't watch much telly.
saw grand designs last night with the chap converting the church in dudley into his family home.........................
wow!!!
if you ever needed inspiration, that chap is the man. Doing the whole lot almost by himself on a budget of 90 grand.........just incredible.
Retro RWD is the way forward...........automotive fabrication, car restoration, sheetmetal work, engine conversion

Yup! Pretty damn determined bloke. 6 days off in 2 years working 7 days a week 16 hours a day!!!
Don't think I'll try that considering how long it's taken me to build the car!!!!!

Yes it was incredible, how long would it take him to build a Locost????? 14-18 hour days

that is a new series Nat.
The prize for budget vs determination goes to that man so far. I cant say i liked all of it in the end but there were bits that were extremely well
done. The kitchen worked well. Also liked the upstairs. If i heard it right he had a 80K mortgage, 8K savings and 7K from family plus 12K purchase
(which must be the bargain of the century). So approx 110K total spend, it must have been worth 3 times that. The man is a hero. I bet he could build
a sports car, race it and win for £250.
The most enjoyable series so far was the derelict heritage building in Yorkshire. That man, albeit a talented architect, was just insane to take on
such a project.
Worst series by far was the house boat. Didnt deserve to be shown on National TV.

Was a truley awsome build....but...If he could have prooved to the planners that the building was likley to be demolished if he didnt buy it, and that
all he was going to do with the balcony was wrip off the seats and then entomb what was left he could have persuaded them to let him remove the
balcony....would have made the house so much bigger inside!!!
The upstairs was really cool...but im not sure about having a smelly pool in the middle of my house!

I love Grand Designs and I’ve always wanted to build my own house. Last nights’ guy had unbelievable commitment to his project and did a great job of
the work. How he did it for the money is amazing too. He would have benefited from the input of a professional designer or a proper architect
though. Some of the rooms were quite awkward and the swimming pool off the lounge was awful.
My wife’s comment? The wife’s hair colour changed in every clip during the film.

I have to agree I didn't like some of his ideas, but I can't disagree with his motivation and attitude. The fact he'd spent 3 months
and £6K working on it before he even completed was mad.
Well done to him!

my girlfriend and her housemate said the same about the wife's hair colour................strange cos I never even noticed!!
5 big bedrooms, all with ensuites, plus all the rest incl swimming pool etc, was incredible on that budget

now thats been on telly tho , how much do you reckon its worth ? £250k
2 years minus mortgage and borrowed money equals 75K a year .
for 14-16 hours a day 7 days a week - id say thats about the right wage . lol.
im sure if he was a committed builder - he coud have earnt more than that in projects he could have done for other people .
not nocking it - in fact it was bloody good to see - just putting a perspective on it . its becoming my fav program after top gear .

How can you say Kevin is a tosser. He is one of the few house programme presenters who has a genuine skill and knowledge about what he is presenting.
The only annoying bit is that the show directors obviously having him working to a script, other than that id say he is fantastic.
I also find Kirsty and Phil to be good and also Sarah Beeny.
Im pretty sure of the guy last night had spent 10 - 15K on designs and possibly another 50K on the build as a result it would have been a totally
different project but that isnt the point i guess. What he did on that budget was truly amazing. His wife remained amazingly positive and focussed as
well. It couldnt have been easy for her. I dont think i could have been that dedicated.

Saw the start and somehow missed the rest of the program. Glad to see he did it, wish i had seen it all now.

Whilst some of the house was a bit weird, like the pool, overall what he did was nothing short of astounding. With determination like that you could
take over the world! I think the pool would've been better as a wood panelled games room though, but that's just me. Also not too sure
I'd want a big dome to overlook the wonders of Dudley from though......

I didn't see this one, but was quite impressed with the guy who converted a wreck of a castle (a few walls really) which was a scheduled ancient
monument. Commitment is definately the word with the amount of red tape to jump through these days!

Absolutely amazing. I agree that Kevin can be a bit off at times and doesn't really see the full picture. If the guy had employed an architect
would he have been able to complete all of that for the same money? I don't think so.
Compared to where he was living he and his family now have an amazing large family home to enjoy without to large a financial burden either. Even if
it wasn't architecturally correct (according to Kevin) who really gives a flying fart.
I agree it is also getting to be a favourite program.

Im sure kevin only comes across like that due to the way the prog is scripted and formatted. In real life he is so much better i believe.
With architect etc there is no way it would have been done for the money. I reckon the guy performed a small miracle on such a low budget.
Not sure about the location of his new home. The neighbours didnt look to be a barrel of fun, a bit dead if you ask me. i bet they dont get to
organise too many parties and events there, they are all too laid back.
