Audio filter? Crossover?
As I can't hear my Satnav system over the V6 (even round town) I have piped it through an FM transmitter gizmo which allows me to tune in the
radio and have 90 Watts of Satnav
The only niggle is that there is too much bass and I really need to filter some out to allow the high frequencies to cut through the engine noise and
stop the booming bass.
Is there an easy way to do this? I don't really want to have to resort to a graphic equaliser just for this and I was wondering if a crossover
unit for speakers would do the job, or are the impedances too far out to work?
Cheers,
Raz

I should think impedances would be a problem. What I would try is feed audio to the FM transmitter through a relatively-low value capacitor. Difficult
to guess what value but I would start with 100 pF, 1nF 10nF etc until you get a result. The capacitor could then be fitted inside the minijack that
you are presumably using to feed the FM

The crossovers on the speakers simply separate the Lo and Hi frequencies at a certain frequency (cut-off) so you don't send 50Hz to your
tweeter for example. If you want to get rid of the bass you will need to mess with the equaliser settings. If it is a graphic EQ attenuate all
frequencies below 250Hz and boost frequencies between 1.5 to 4kHz (speech frequencies). If your headunit has filter functions use a high pass filter,
bandpass filter or Low cut filter.

Admittedly I am being lazy and I prefer not to play around with the EQ settings on the head unit. That way I can just tune in to the Satnav when
required (just the press of one button) without fiddling with the EQ every time.
Actually it does make me sound VERY lazy doesn't it! I'll try a few caps and see how it goes - thanks guys.

Forgot to say - a capacitor may cost as much as 10p
