Previa central locking problem

My tintop 95 previa has a problem with the side sliding door central locking.
The solenoid looks like it is attempting to move the lock in either direction but does not move it. The lock mechanism is moving freely by hand so it is not jammed.
I have taken the solenoid out and replaced it with another working solenoid, but it still does the same.
I can lock the whole car by turning the key in this door's lock but I can't get it to lock/unlock if I turn another door key or use my alarm remote.
Any ideas as to why the lock does not move?
The door has contacts for all the controls/lights etc. I have cleaned them.
Is this a known issue?

Cheers Martin

Has the striker moved on the door frame? Slacken it off and try the lock with it loose.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

The solenoid is not moving the lock part of the mechanism.
This is not affected by the striker parts position.
The door opens and closes normally
