ebay classic...........
We sell a fair few cooker hoods/extractors on ebay.........
Stainless, black, white........
Just had an email from an angry buyer claiming they want too send the stainless hood back as its grey in appearance and they wanted a stainless
effect..........and also we should alter our description as they are grey and not a stainless finish..........
"You have peeled off the grey protective film covering the hood" was my reply........
Whoops........

Thats almost like the classic IBM helpline story.
"........No I can't see the instruction book.
Why?
Its dark.The lights are out.
When did your computer stop working?
Same time the lights went out...."
..Which was nice..

I had something similar
Sold a In car DVD player with the twin screens for the headrests.
The guy e-mails me to say that the remote isn't working.
I knew it was working when I last used it, and the guy was local so I went to see him.
He set the system up in the back of his car and went to get us a cuppa.
Out of interest I tried the remote.
It worked!
So I said to him"It works for me"
He says "I've had two lots of batteries in it and it doesn't."
so I picked it up and paused the DVD.
"how did you do that!!" he says
"pressed the pause button"
I gave him the remote and he's sitting half in and half out of the car going "it won't work for me!"
Then I spotted what he was doing.
The sensors for the remotes are on the screens - he was pointing the remote at the head unit!!!
Problem solved.
cheers
Chris

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

I hate to admit, I did a similar thing with my carbon effect rear light housings from Westfield.
They were a bit "chipped" in places, but not too badly. Although for what they cost I wasn't happy.
Sent an email to parts dept and he asked if I'd removed the clear covering.
Clear covering was so good, I didn't realise it had one.

Sometimes written as PEBCAK by support departments.
(Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard)
Also sometimes the good old "ID-10-T" error.

In 4 years of working for Barclays Bank in an IT help desk I have been asked to sort out several problems "in house" I recall at least 4
out of 5 times that I have fixed a printer/scanner/photocopier problem by "turning it on"...........

PICNIC - Problem In Chair Not In Computer
My favourite and I'm claiming to have invented this as i've never heard it before i said it.
The problem is with a Computer User, Non Technical.
(i've done a lot of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and on site support in my time - the sins of being a developer of a product with a loyal and either elderly or
wannabe techie user base.

Here is all the txt below, (address removed) to her credit she as apologised, brightens the day up a little.
Hello June
I feel so stupid cannot believe it... I am so sorry I really do
apologise...
Many thanks for all your help
Michelle

Hi,
You have taken off grey the plastic film that covers the hood haven't
you ?
The hood is brushed stainless and very bright.
J.
Thank you for this, but I am really disappointed with the Hood, it's
>not really stainless steel more like a grey colour I expected it to be
>more like a stainless steel effect and not grey in colour also a lot
>off scratches on the front off hood and will be very noticeable when I
>put this in the kitchen.
>
>Would it be possible to return this item please and have a refund. I
>would change the description on future hoods
>
>Please let me know if able to return

Excellent news, it could easily have turned into a stupid negative feedback story with some of the cretins that inhabit ebay.
Get some with the bright blue film for next time
p.s. June...?

A friend of mine used to work for a big IT company that managed hotel computer systems. He was called out one time from sussex to aberdeen because an
application had dissapeared from the computer. It turns out the window had been minimised. A single click of the mouse and he could drive home
again. At least it was a day out.

I had the same issue when buying a hood from homebase. Specified stainless and the first one turned up in a painted grey finish. Complained and they
sent me a much better branded one, was still painted grey though, and no protective film on it!
Gave up in the end as realised I wasn't going to get anywhere as they'd already 'upgraded' me. This was a built in style unit
with front door/fascia to match other units.
Ned.
beware, I've got yellow skin

I have to say Jon you left yourself wideopen to that
That woman must have been a true classic. All of the protective film i have seen on hoods looks so naff there is no way you could confuse it as the
final finish. Its maybe worth putting a note on the advert or invoices.

I remember getting called out to fix a problem with a server that had been delivered to the customer site.
It was delivered 3 weeks prior to the call and had been reported working perfectly. We then got a heap of calls when the old server was decommissioned
and the apps stopped working.
A visit to site found the problem, the new server was in the server room still in the delivery packing!!
