I think 99% of all cars would look like that (or worse) after a 120MPH impact. Could have been cut away to get at the driver

Judging by the reports, he went head on onto an on-coming GMC truck/SUV.
Even if you're (both) only doing 50 then I can't see any car coming off too well against a truck!

True enough, but two comments.
Firstly it looks to have come off in one clean piece (doesn't look cut off to me, but I could be wrong) which means it didn't absorb all
the energy it might have, and secondly simply seeing it with your eyes means you'd (well I'd) always have it in my mind when driving the
thing.
