Tin-Top Questions Vauxhall Zafira
Hi There,
Wondering if there are any vauxhall specialists on here......
To replace the wifes less than reliable renault megane we have just bought her a 55 new shape zafira 1.6i Life. She chose the car based on price and
of course colour, these were the only criteria...
Of couse now she has it she realises it is missing some of the toys she wants. My comments of "you have bought the wrong car" and "I
told you so" fell on deaf ears. She (the worlds greatest living car expert) reckons it must be possible to add the bits. Apparently if I can
build a car I can add these small bits.
So the questions are......
Can the fuel computer from a different model be added, by the way she has already bought one off ebay !!!!
Any suggestions for good alloy wheels at a good price (the 16" tyres could be swapped over the keep the cost down)
Window tinting..... Is this a DIY job using film, I have heard differing stories does anyone have any real life experience.
If it wasnt for the fact that I'll have to carry out these 'upgrades' it would almost be funny......
Any Vauxhall mechanics out there ????
John.

If she needs a fuel computer, buy her a notepad, pencil and calculator and tell her to work it out herself
With any luck that'll keep her occupied for so long she'll forget about the wheels and windows

pretty sure the trip computer fits straight in and will work.
as for the windows, if you know how to do them then it just takes time and patience and you can get a good result.
basically:
mix up a tiny bit of fairly liquid with water, you will use this alot.
clean windows inside and out with the mix. apply lots to the film, lay it on the outside of the window and cut to shape. clean the film with the
spray.
spay the inside of the window with the mix, remove the backing from the film and spray that aswell.
offer the film up to the window (centre first) and work it out so that you get less bubbles / creases.
slowly work out any bubbles with a credit card. takes a while but works.
if you are putting it onto curved glass use a heat gun to shrink it slightly in places so that it follows the creases (once its on the window and your
working creases / bubbles out).
do not do the back windows in 3 bits you will see lines. back window is a biatch to do (took the tinter doing mine 3 attempts)
also be carefull with the heater matrix as you may crease / scratch the film.
also, do not pop any bubbles as it will look awful, just work them out.
any q's then u2u me.

I don't know the work involved but guarantee changing the car will be a lot easier and probably not a lot in it cost wise by the time
you've finished.
beware, I've got yellow skin

Fuel computer should be fairly easy to install but you might have to get someone at the dealers to plug it in to the tech2 to enable it. Get the
windows done professionally, you see too many horrendous looking DIY jobs which aren't too bad on the back windows of an old builders van but
would ruin a new car. Regarding the wheels, you could have a look on sites such as vectra-c.com as there are always plenty of people upgrading to
larger rims and you should be able to pick up some nice genuine Vx 16" cheaply to go with your tyres.

Thanks guys,
Something to think about there for me.
I'll have a look at the connector on the fuel computer and see if it looks the same as the 'replacement'.
Anyone close to me (Warrington) with access to the tech 2 thing....
I might have a go at the windows, the tinting film seems cheap enough from ebay, got to be worth a go.......right....
Fortunately she's got a good track record regarding kerbing wheels, she realised the dangers of riding kerbs when she knocked over a petrol pump
just after passing her test. Its the bumpers that come in for a hard time now, surprised she's not after parking sensors as well (hope she never
ever reads this).
